A short term loan designed to "bridge the gap" between sources of long term financing. Let's say you sell industrial machines worth $5 million. To sell them you need to buy or build them but you don't get paid until after they get delivered to the customer. You might take out a short term bridge loan which allows you to build the equipment and deliver it so you can get paid from the customer and pay off the loan. They generally have a maturity date with a balloon payment.

How do they go bad? Let's say you're half way through building the machinery and your customer goes belly up. You are now screwed and so too is the lender.

And to think that I wrote the same thing with a single syllable.

Just curious but have anyone actually done this? If so, what's your experience?

Sounds like an unnecessary venture if you ask me.

High risk = possibility of high returns?
