Default Dodge & Cox

I'm appalled that this company has not been discussed in this forum, but what are your thoughts on Dodge & Cox Funds? Their funds are characterized by low expenses and turnover ratios; and they have a consistent strategy that produces index beating returns. Too bad two out of their four funds are closed to new investors.

"Appalled" ...... According to Webster: "Filled with Horror.....". THAT's pretty serious.

They're decent funds. All have 5 star Morningstar ratings except DODFX which has a 4. As stated before they have low expenses [although not as low as a lot of the Vanguard funds].

And they are apparently a pretty responsible outfit since, unlike a lot of fund companies, they appear to close their funds when they reach a size that would preclude them from meeting the fund objective. IMHO they wouldn't be a bad choice for a portfolio.

The only good ones are the 2 managed buy the old coot who's been running them since 1974 and will likely retire any day now. They would have been great funds to buy 20 or even 10 years ago but I don't know that I'd want to jump on today with a fund manager pushing 70.

Old COOT at 70 ...!!!! ...... Damn all you young pups....... What's wrong with pushing 70? I'm almost there and think I've still got a few good years left.

The balanced fund is probably one of the top 20 of all time. Its closed now I was lucky to get into it about 4 years ago for my roth IRA and contribute to it every year.

Look at the risk vs return is not only that its only had one down year in the last 11 years.

All boats rise during good markets but the balanced fund does well in down markets as well.
