Default Yay or Nay?

Im sorta diggin' how this guy painted the wheels because it gives the spokes a thinner look. I think if I did it, Id go with a gunmetal color on the insides just so it's not such a harsh contrast like the black is. I really like how it makes it look like a more pronounced split 5-spoke design Thoughts?

If you get it done professionally, which I would, it can last just as long as powdercoating.

it all depends on the durability factor. I "painted" my calipers with some kind of high temp paint back in early Summer of '07 & yeah if you look at them - they did not hold up well. Glances are good - stares are not.

And see, I painted my calipers immediately when I got the car. It took me 8 hours, but I dremeled down all the casting marks, sanded the finish, got it nearly polished, then applied 5 coats of black, the decal, and 4 coats of clear. They still look like the day I did it with just a wipe off. Going on 2 years now....

i like it some of the bmw's are doing wheels like that and as for them lasting im the wheel paint whore and if you do them right and dont abuse the car and put it in situations where they would get chiped they will last a good while i still have a set of ap1s painted bronze that have had the same coat for over a year now no chips i say do it it will look good

Eh, they look more defined with black recesses and barrels for sure. It is striking to se in pictures, but I've found that every time I see wheels like that in person I don't like them nearly as much (strange because usually its the opposite and I like wheels more in person than in pictures). If I did finish wheels like that, I would likely use flat black or semi-satin but definitely nothing really glossy. I also would probably stick to black paint otherwise it can be too "dull" and look slightly goofy. The sharp contrast between the black and the faces is what makes the wheel pop and stand out like they do in that picture.
