Default K & N intake install and 1st impressions

Hey Guys,

I just put on my K&N intake the other day. I bought it because I thought it would be the most simple to install (no bumper cutting required). I found that the heat shield did not fit very easy using the L brackets required, that the the stock air box bolts didn't hold the head shield in properly because they weren't threaded all the way (didn't need to be for the stock airbox). Most annoying was the temperate seal that needed to go around the heat shield, it was very hard to take one solid piece of stripping and wrap it around 90 degree metal corners, I needed to cut the stripping so it would go around the corners (thereby making the seal of the heat shield less effective. Would have been nice for that to come preinstalled and if they gave proper bolts for installing the bracket onto the frame. Had a CEL come on the 2nd time I drove it, I think the check valve was backwards so I switch that it the CEL went off (instructions and pictures could be clearer).

Anyway, the intake once installed sounds very nice, not too loud and no whistling while cruising but at WOT and especially when you get into VTEC it sounds amazing. I couldn't really feel a difference on the butt dyno.

Given the annoying with the heatshield/airbox it comes with I would had rather got a CAI.

If you own it what was your impression of the install and performance?

Installed mine very easily. Everything bolted up exactly as it should! Love the intake. Great sound, seemed to add a little something in throttle response and maybe a few ponies. Clears up a lot of space in the engine bay as well since the oem is a monster. Have it matted up with an AUT cooling plate to get some good airflow while driving. great combo.

Biggest pain in the ass for me was removing the stock airbox lol. The nuts required a lot of torque and removing the pipes were a pain.

I agree that putting the rubber seal on was a huge pain in the ass.

But for the most part I thought the instructions were clear and it's a pretty straightforward install.

Love the sound of it.

install for me took around 1 hour...everything went it in fine except that lining around the heat shield. had to cut it at the 90 degree point cause there was no way it was going to fold that far. other than that the sound is awesome during vtec! but i cant hear it anymore because of my invidia v3...but in june im going to have to sell it because im s/c it.
