f22 engine rebuild
So hears my story I bought my AP1 in November with the drivetrain removed. It came with an ap2 motor and original transmission. It took me about three months to get all the necessary parts and it up and running. After sorting out several issues I got about two weeks of driving out of it with no problems.
Then one day it made a noise pulling into my driveway. So I took it out the next day it was fine. I decided to take the rpm's up and it didnt hit vtec. So i took it home dropped the oil pan to find what appeared to be bearing shavings.
So I Removed and tore town the motor to find basically all of the main bearings seem to be ground up to some extent (the copper coating stuff). Only two crank journals have light (very light damage to them) but, the rods are all ok. The #4 cylinder has some light scuffing typically seen in the AP1 motors.
So ive been looking into rebuilding my motor and I am getting conflicting information. I was told by a very reputable S2000 shop in my area that it cant be rebuilt and to just by a shortblock from honda. Ive been re-searching it on here and it seems that it is possible to rebuild it but it seems a lot of responses on here are to just buy a short block too. Time is not really an big deal it is not my daily driver but, I would like to keep the cost down as much as possible. It seems to me that worst case scenario a new crank, one oversized piston if necessary, and standard rebuild would take care of it. What I am really looking for is someone with experience to give me some reliable info. THanks
