Default Custom Exhaust? yay or nay?

I have a friend who does very high end custom exhaust, he has done exhaust for everything from exotics to BMW's to muscle cars and bikes of all kinds. He told me that if I want he can do a custom exhaust job for me for around 350-400 bucks since he would only charge me material costs. He only uses the highest quality materials and mandrel bends the piping to prevent bottlenecks. What do you all think of doing this? this job would normally cost about 1k, The car is my DD and my autox car, I run in A-Stock.

question 2) if I do it what sort of specs should I give him?

Depends what you're looking for. If you're going for performance then a single exhaust 70mm exhaust will be your best bet. Of course it is going to be loud as hell but you gain a bit more power.

I just went from a J's 60mm single to an ASM 70mm single. The butt dyno says the 70 has better top end but the car was dead coming out of a tight 180 in second the corner was slow but a little to fast to go to 1st.

I will need a few more autocrosses to decide which one I liked better power wise, but the ASM is staying on the car because it is quite.

60mm better bottom end, 70mm better top end on a stock AP2.

I thought most 70s made more power all across the powerband...

If you are going to go modified then make it worth it and do something unique to match what you are looking for.

Plenty of exhausts out there off the shelf that meet the need.

The new Spectrum elite looks realy nice, has 70mm piping and looks stockish save the the nice burnt blue tips and a very affordable price.

this job would be over 1k if I paid full price... so in this case I am likely getting more then I paid for.
