Default Ap1 NA Questions/Build.

Hey everyone, I'm new to the s2ki forums, but I have been lurking for about 6 months, and finally decided to post. I will be getting a Ap1 soon, and would like to keep it NA. I also would like to make suggestions on what I want to do, and try to hear peoples opinion/suggestions. Yes, I used the Search button, but I'd like to hear it directly!

Ap1 aprox 60-80k milles.

Mods: Cold air intake(probably something like K/N, but it just depends)
Toda Headers/skunk2?
Test Pipe(60mm) back to a Apexi N1 Exhaust Single(60mm)
Down Pipe
Brian Crower Camshafts/Skunk2 (stage2, Im pretty sure I will need Spring, retainers,Head studs)
Throttle Body(i have heard different things, but maybe a 65mm)
Apexi SAFC tune. I could get the AEM, but it will work fine, and I will lower Vtec to around 56--5900rpm

Misc
New sparkplugs
Coilovers, new sway bars/strut bars.
Rims/Tires.

I will be autox my car, but I also want decent times in a 1/4. If you have any suggestions please let me know thanks!

welcome to the boards.

dont know if you've did all your Homework, but if not, anyone here will tell you that NA is pricey compared to forced induction. with those mods dont expect MASSIVE amount of hp gain, but you'll get some sweet ponies out of them. but im sure everyone in the NA forum will be glad you decided to stay NA.

toda header will run you +/- $1200
70mm will net you better* gains(expect to be louder though)

not sure about the camshafts only because ive herd that stock cams are already forged and some cams have proven to lose power compared to stock, maybe someone can chime in on that.

throttle body might require more work, such as a matched intake manifold iirc.
apexi safc tune sounds good, i dont know TOO much about ecu's and what not all though id like to learn more.<<theres a thread FULL of ecu info

1/4 will require you to launch which has proven to destroy the diff. thats up to you, we'd just hate for you to find out the hard way how weak the diff is interms of running 1/4 miles.

sorry about the essay, just my $0.02
a bunch of great people here on s2ki that would be willing to further elaborate and help you out with any other questions you have

welcome to the boards
and be safe

Thank you, I do appreciate that. I will look into more Throttle body/Camshafts. Ill also look into the 70mm. I have heard about the diff getting hurt.. Ill look and see if anyone can elaborate/improve it. Racing in a straight line is only so exciting, and launching your car only happens when your at the track almost never anywhere else.

NA is more expensive in the long run, but Turbo/SC is just so bad for your engine unless you build it(correct me if im wrong) i just want a quick/reliable car.

Welcome

Any cold air will be a good choice. If your focused on the K&N then go for it. It's one of the best out there.

Stay away from the DC Sports header. You can't really go cheap with this car if you want to see any kind of gains out of your modifications. Toda is a great choice, but pricey. You can't compare it to DC in any way. If your looking for something a little cheaper that will at least benefit the car some then look into Berk, or Megan. Maybe you'll be lucky and come across a used Toda.

70mm does make more power on the exhaust, but if you want the apex-i then do stay with the 60mm test pipe combo. You'll still see decent gains with the set up.

I would say stay away from cams just yet. To date there has really been no cam to show good enough gains to out weigh the costs of everything to purchase and set them up. In fact Todas are probably the only one's documented to show decent gains, but usually it's on built motors. Hytech is another company who makes probably the best cams for the S, but you'll never get them so no choice trying.

Throttle body is ok, but leave it as a last step. Good chance you won't get any HP gains, or maybe 1-2hp. For best results it's best to match the IM to it.

With just these mods even a simple VAFC should be good enough for you. If Hondata has a reflash for pre-ap2's then I would go with that. If you do go with cams then you'll need an AEM EMS, or something like it for tuning.

In the end just look at the things that will benefit your car the most, and start there. I'm sure you'll love everything you do.

Ok

Toda Headers/DC Sports.

You listed the best header and one of the worst. I would advise either Toda or nothing and honestly probably nothing.

will answer rest later...

Thanks for all the Input guys. Toda Headers are really expensive, is there a Solid one that are around 400-500? If not I will just save to get them, but I'd like to know.

I do know s2k is not made to drag of course, I also know that fast drag times are not a complete waste either.. If I can hit 13 flat at my peak of a N/A s2k thats totally fine with me. It more so to have the amazing car High revs/great looks and hitting a turn going 80MPH!
