if you are 180 out it will turn over but not start and not bend valves. I wold double check the timing.

well a few degrees off isnt bad. It would be advanced or retarded, but if you are severely out of timing then the valves will be opening when pistons are at tdc and that will cause bent valves.

i have done cams on two of my previous cars and i always static bump before i actually try to start just to make sure as it spins at a significantly lower rpm. When i did cams on my 2g eclipse the dowel pins were different and i was not aware so I put them in 180 out and it just turned over but wouldnt actually start (acted like it was going too)

I would check connections, and if everything is good then take at look at your timing.

edit: if your car is turning over and not making noise my guess is you are ok. You would hear your valves hit. just double check everything.

I'm sure you would have heard something if you did any damage. You could be 1 tooth off. Its pretty hairy right there. Did you switch out the TDC wheel on the ass-end of the cam? I'd assume you'd have to do that so the TDC sensors work correctly, but I'm not sure.

I have an extra one I'll send up free of charge if you need it. Give me a call if you want it.

Drewmob Thanks alot for the offer! I actually still have the TDC off my F20 so if thats the problem then I should have one on hand. I didnt change anything on the cam just pulled the one and dropped the other in. Should I switch TDC gears? Doesnt look like theres a difference.

How can I check to see if Im a tooth off? I didnt hear anything funny when it was turning over. Sounded like it wanted to start just didnt. Hopefully the valves are good! I see there are ''nicks'' ior positioning marks on the cams gears. I believe they are supposed to line up yeah? Like when the marks are facing each other at the closest point. Is it safe to spin the crank pully to line the two?

And how does one ''static'' to see if the gears are in correctly?

static bumping is quick bumps with no ignition.

you can put a ratchet on the crank pulley to spin it.... that wont hurt anything. Do you not have a Haynes, Chilton's, or Helms service manual?

if not that would be a wise investment for the future.

nvm that you have already turned the car over with no valve impact. static bumping is just turning the car over with the ignition unplugged.

Check if the cam position chopper plate on the rear of the camshaft is the same as what came out. I think one or both of the F22C ones have a different number of teeth to the F20C ones.
