Cholesterol medication for almost all!
A new marketing of cholesterol medication for folks, even if they don't have high cholesterol. Wonder how many docs will get on this band wagon.
I say thanks, but no thanks!
With the government’s blessing, a drug giant is about to expand the market for its blockbuster cholesterol medication Crestor to a new category of customers: as a preventive measure for millions of people who do not have cholesterol problems.
Some medical experts question whether this is a healthy move.

Well that's one way of looking at it. Expect a high co pay for the med though, thus increasing the cost of your big Macs. I doubt most insurers will go along with this. If I had high cholesterol my insurance company has the "step up" program, meaning I have to try the generic stuff first.
I love this news. I may go on it. My C is always borderline, around 200.
Lainey, with your recent views on insurance companies trying to get you to do healthy things, plaid GTi interiors, waking up at 6:15 AM, and now Crestor, I need a new block of paper for my "List of Things Lainey Hates." Maybe I should go digital with this.

You really like that plaid interior?
Most likely because you didn't wear a plaid pleated skirt for many years..........or did you?
Crestor: No way will I take statins unless cholesterol or heart issues indicate it is necessary. I think "statins for almost all" will be like estrogen. Everyone should take it. 15-20 years down the road, we'll hear

trueit's like how my ins company will only cover 4 viagra s a month at a co-pay of $30.00 (so it's like i only get one for free cause the pills are $10.00 each
- but not really as i pay $30.00 a week for my heath care and my employer pays a LOT more) it's funny how the Ins company says once a week "magic" is enough and that's all they will pay for
hey insuance company keep your hands off my

I don't anything about the Crestor. I've read some stuff about researchers concluding that because of familial high cholesterol and high cholesterol levels in teenagers, perhaps young kids should be started on lifelong statins as a heart disease preventative. There should be more known about long term effects. Perhaps only 30-40% of takers are even helped. Should we be concerned about statin drug induced loss of libido - of both the ability and desire variety?

If I'm going to subject my liver to abuse, I'll take up drinking vs taking statins.
