Some of you may wish to post condolences on the SoCal forum. They lost a member to a tragic accident yesterday.

These kind of accidents happen all too often. I use ramps, rather than jackstands, whenever possible. If I have to use jackstands I use really strong ones. Anytime you expect to be doing hard wrenching you need to shake the car really hard to make sure it's well supported before crawling under it.

I'm not sure but I think NY Metro just lost someone in a similar accident.

An employee who worked for my employer died from a similar accident earlier this spring. He was at home working under his personal vehicle and it fell on him.

I'd like to ask everyone to remember the old line from Hill Street Blues: "Hey, let's be careful out there."

It is tragic.

I always make it a point of putting the tires I take off, under the car with me.
The even if the car falls off the stands, there is a limit to how far it can come down.

Cinder blocks have been known to crumble very easily. Be care with those.
