Be alert against your average idiot who can blissfully and thoughtlessly kill you.

Watch this and you may have a whole different slant on things the next time you drive.

Could be an S2000 about the 4 minute mark.

S1997 probably really winced watching that one. He's lucky to be alive after his bicycle accident years ago.

Cameras installed recently in my area have helped reduce the number of red light runners a little but it is still a worry. Too many distractions plus dangerous drivers these days and it is only going to get worse. I stay off the main roads when I bike but even secondary roads are a concern.

Some of those motorcycle accidents brought back some horrible memories. I was riding my bike home from Brooklyn College in 1971 when a woman ran a red light and hit me. I spent 17 days in the hospital.

Where I live now there is a left turn from the left lane from Route 10 onto Center Grove Road. There is a turn signal, but those of us who live here have learned not to accelerate into the turn immediately when the turn signal turns green. At least twice a week someone coming from the opposite direction starts to go as soon as the turn signal turns green. We've all had the opportunity to see a few accidents.

During my days in the motorcycle industry I was involved in teaching motorcycle safety, with the Yamaha Learn to Ride program as well as a program in conjunction with the Arlington County Police in Virginia.

One Motorcycle Safety Foundation study found that 74% of all motorcycle accidents are caused by other vehicles when the motorcycle is making a left turn. People just are not trained to look for motorcycles for the most part. People of our generation were taught to look for on coming cars before crossing the street. There was never any mention of looking for on coming motorcycles before crossing the street.

Looking at the video I could not help but think how many of those "accidents" were preventable if both parties had been "AWARE" of what was going on around them. Most of those accidents were avoidable. In a few cases it appeared as though the drivers could have avoided the accident if they had not fixated on the target but instead looked at where they "should have aimed" to avoid the accident. This is one of the major causes of accidents. Fixation that is.

I saw a guy run a red light last week. Cars were stopped at the red light and he just drove right by them and went through it. Luckily, no one got hit. I wondered what he was thinking, just like I do in these videos.

As an avid motorcyclist I don't even have to watch the link, I can just imagine...
As you said, the average idiot
On the bike, whenever I go through an intersection, I'm planning on someone running a red light or a stop sign, and I ride and look accordingly
People in cages don't give a crap about us bikers
