Default Spring Fling '11 - Saturday Drive and Curve Fest

I just happened to be in Asheville this weekend and took a little drive. If you've never driven the roads in that part of NC you are in for a treat (and a lot of steering wheel-turning). I have the Saturday drive already done (not what I went for but it was a great day on Saturday). If you don't know Mt. Mitchell, after the drive you will. Mt. Mitchell State Park. This map doesn't do it justice. Follow SR197 South and you'll see the kind of roads we'll be driving.

Looks good. What type of elevation changes does the road have? I have driven the Blue Ridge on North out of Aheville but never this road.

You go from the top of Mount Mitchell (over 6000 ft) to 2,134 which is the elevation of Asheville. It's an interesting drive.

As a matter of fact, I did the preliminary work on the hotel. Almost everything is in place. The hotel information will be coming soon.

Apparently they had a few curves left over from other NC roads because they put them all on SR 197.

I'm in Ken! Keep me posted on the details. I will be happy to be a drive leader again for this!

I have driven SR-197, it is fantastic. When I do WTD, I also try to hit SR-197 that same weekend. Glad you enjoy the road.
