Default Modified OEM Exhaust **Updated with sound clips**

So, I got a hair up my ass and decided to cut apart the OEM exhaust. I had been looking at cheap ways to cut weight from the car, and I figured the stock exhaust was fairly heavy. The mufflers alone are massive and I'm sure weigh a good bit. I pulled the exhaust from the car, and sure enough it is REALLY heavy. I ended up cutting the exhaust about 4 inches past the resonator. When I cut it, and ended cutting somewhat of a turn-down in the pipe.

All in all, I like the way it sounds, and ended up dropping, I'm guessing, close to 50lbs. give or take.

Here are some sound clips of the exhaust. Sorry, for the shaky picture, I hadn't had my daily bump of meth yet. . .

Stock exhaust I think weighs 55lbs? You probably dropped 45lbs or so, maybe picked up a few from freeing up the exhaust too. Might not sound as good as an actual exhaust, you could get similar weight savings with a nice titanium single exhaust

Yeah, I could also lighten my wallet by about $1500 or so I'm pretty happy with the way it sounds. I'm actually getting ready to buy a full Berk set-up, but for the time being I figured I'd mess around with what I already had.

I bet that smells great. Yes you lost some weight but there is several decent exhausts for pretty cheap (around $600 new or under $500 used). Any single exhaust will drop the weight by alot. Also get a test pipe since you will lose another 10lbs or so by getting rid of the cat. I guess its a short term fix but its still kinda ghetto.

Why is it ghetto? Because I didn't spend any money on it? What do those $600 exhausts do? They replace the OEM mufflers with a piece of pipe and a muffler? Not much different from what I've done really. The thread about the STR prepped S2000 discuss the same thing, and I'm sure I'm not the only person whose done this in the past. Yes, it is temporary, and kind of one those 'why not' things.

Oh, and it doesn't smell at all. Well that's not entirely true; every now and then I get a faint smell of exhaust when I've been sitting still for a while, but other than that it's fine. I haven't bought a test pipe because I'm going to order one with the Berk system.

Okay, it might be a LITTLE ghetto!
