Default was it his coils or tires?

well i own an 06 ap2 and my friend was thinking about selling his s for something more functional and so i called his tein flex coils if he did go through with it. so he let me drive his ap1 (mods: some aftermarket header, testpipe, greddy tic dual, flex coils, and stock ap1 wheels). we set his coils at different dampening settings, but to me it felt like his car didn't stay planted well around corners at all and i'm talking about just like normal 25-30mph 90 degree turns at intersections.

i find it odd that his car slipped a lot at low speeds. i wasn't sure if it was the coils, or the narrower tires, or if he had really crappy tires (forgot to check the brand/model, but he had plenty of tread left). i told him to compare to my car and i let him drive it, all stock with sumitomo htr a/s p01 tires, which i thought were just mediocre tires (these are my first set, so i don't have any other experience). he was surprised how much better it stayed planted compared to his.

so as title states was it the coils? ap1 wheels? or tires. i'm thinking mainly tires, but i'll check his tires tomorrow to update.
if tein flex owners could chime in about how it rides and etc. input would be great. trying to decide upon these tein flex, fortune auto 500 v4 (new version is out! ), bc racing br, or my friend's used spoon showa coils. oh decisions

EDIT:
he has toyo proxes 4, which i've read weren't that great?

More than likely bad narrow tires.. It's possible it could've been the coil setup though too
