[UPDATE - CRUISE IS ON SUN AUG 20 BC RAIN] 2017 Muskoka Cruise
DUE TO RAIN, THE CRUISE HAS BEEN MOVED TO SUNDAY AUGUST 20. EVERYTHING ELSE REMAINS THE SAME (E.G., MEET-UP TIMES)
Alright everyone, the 5th annual Muskoka cruise has been set! If you've been before, welcome back. If this is your first Muskoka cruise, it involves 3-4 hours of (spirited) driving, including pit stops.
Here are the videos from the previous 2 years:
GTA PRE-MEET UP: Tim Hortons at Victoria Park and Hwy 401 (9 AM, leave by 930 AM)
MEET UP LOCATION: East Side Mario's in Orillia (315 Memorial Ave - 11 AM onwards) (Gas up at the Shell and grab a bite at the McDonald's)
DEPARTURE TIME: 1230pm SHARP!
DINNER: The Boston Pizza or the pub next door along the lake in Gravenhurst
CRUISE ROUTE: Google My Maps (this WON'T give you navigation, but it'll give you GPS overlay, so if you zoom out a bit, you'll know where you are)
There'll be pit stops at Muskoka Brewery (for pickup, not drinking) and Sweet Jesus Icecream in Port Carling. Google maps tells me it's a 3-hour cruise WITHOUT pit stops, so we should be finished by 430-ish.
GENERAL POINTERS:
1. Bring a radio if you have one (Channel 4, Sub-channel 0)
-This is, quite possibly, the most important thing to bring (especially for the Niagara Cruise). It'll prevent you from getting lost and it makes the ride more fun with the ongoing chatter.
2. Keep your headlights on
-It makes a big difference to be able to see the tail lights in front of you and the headlights in your mirrors.
3. 2-Car Rule
-Whenever you make a turn or are getting on/off the highway, make sure you can see 2 cars behind you before turning.
-if you really must turn because you're holding up traffic, then stop right after the turn so the car behind you can see you (there may have been a few cars between you guys).
4. Drive within the yellow and white lines
-We cannot emphasize this enough (especially for the Muskoka cruise) - safety is paramount and we're on public roads.
-If you cannot stay between the lines, then you're driving beyond your limit (or you're just being an ass).
