Am I being dumb or unrealistic? (wheel thread)
Before spring I need new tires. Might as well switch out the OEM wheels for something a bit nicer while I'm at it.
Looking to spend around a $1-1.2k with rubber.
There are tons of good tires for sale with very minimal wear on Kijiji, so say ~$300 on tires
So that leaves $700-900ish for the rims
Narrowed it down to:
RPF1s
AP2 V1s
Maybe some CR-KAIs if I can find them in the price range
Obviously used, hopefully located somewhere between Montreal and T-Dot
I want to powdercoat them some stupid colour like Takata orange to set me apart a little bit since both wheels are so done on S2ks. What do you guys think? Other suggestions?

I really like the ap2 oem wheels, ap2v1, ap2v2, and ap2v3. I'v had the last two types and I think they are a nice upgrade. You can usually find them used with some decent rubber at a fraction of the price of new aftermarket. I know I did.
Good powdercoating isn't cheap, unless you're in the business or know a good contact. I've seen some low quality powder jobs on rims done cheaply, a good quality job is worth a few bucks. You don't get touch up paint on powdered rims, so make sure it's done right and you get a durable finish. I got my ap1 rims powdercoated and they turned out great - bead blasted, de-gassed, powdered and cleared.

I saw 4 R888s for around $350 with 75% tread on them
What should I expect to pay for AP2 V1s with decent tires and tread on them?

Saw those in the late fall when I still had my FG2
Haven't really looked since, just an example of what's out there.
They from a race team here in Montreal

pass on the wheels and invest that cash in enjoying your car on the track.
you wont want to run race-used R888s on the street...and you cant measure racing tires by tread (alone). heat cycles matter a lot.
