You might think its picking and choosing for the guys that own many collector cars but the way it works is they get a corporate insurance policy (fleet) where everything is insured for one price and policy. Then they just drive what ever.

When my parents owned their business all of their vehicles were insured under a "fleet insurance policy" but each car was paid for seperatly.

I don't think a fleet insurance policy will work for me
I do a lot of tutoring besides just teaching, so maybe I can check to see if it's worth it to start a business and get corporate insurance instead

I am 50 years old, 3 cars, 2 drivers. Live in TO. Clean record. 2009 S2000 $1100/year goes down to $160 per year for winter storage months.
CAA insurance.

So I guess it's safe to conclude that it's definitely the area that you live in that changes the premiums significantly
Damn.. everything is uber expensive when you're in the GTA area.. Hydro, gas, electricity, land tax, insurance, food and the list goes on..

within the GTA rates can differ up to 50% based on exact location (for the same driver & car)

Insurance companies base it on postal code. I have a friend who is in a similar age bracket and similar base vehicles (the 2 daily drivers) and he pays more than I do because he lives in Woodbridge. Apparently some of the highest rates in Canada.

Area is huge. Brampton is one of the worst areas in terms of insurance rates. Markham and Richmond Hill are also high...My friend that was an insurance adjustor told me that Brampton is known for fraudulent claims, which is why the rates are so high there...If you had a cottage you could register your car there like many people do. There are 'cheap' guy's that register their car's under their parents name, but I don't think that's a viable option for you.

I've never looked into putting my car onto a fire and theft only for the winter, but I should do that to save some coin...

Some of the guys are paying like $700, $800 per year
If my rate was similar, I wouldn't mind having insurance on both my DD and the S2000 during summer seasons
I missed the days when I was with TD Meloche Monnex where I can just call them up once/twice every month and tell them I need to take the car out for a day or two over the weekends. However when they quoted me $5000/year to insure 2 cars, I just said f**k it I'm switching. Beside a speeding ticket from 7 years ago, my record is completely clean.

The reason why I don't DD my S2000 is because my profession involves a lot of kids.. high school kids..
And I (often) see students accidentally bump/scratch/side swipe into other cars

i'm younger than jimbo by 15 or so years and pay a similar insurance rate (maybe slightly less!)

3 cars - 3 drivers .... s2000 is around 1000 a year and 12 a month when it's stored. (so only really $650 for the year)

don't lie about where you park your car to your insurance company - they will investigate if you ever have a claim and not pay you making all yours savings fruitless.
