On the track, rwd is more "fun" than awd. If you can afford a 100K track car, I would be going 996/7 cup car. Driving an expensive car on the street really just isn't that cool. Get a pick up truck and a trailer.

I'm with you on that one... there's a big BUT though:

996 cup cars are very durable and need rebuilds after 40 or so hours.

The newer 997 cup cars are just $$$ to maintain.

Back to the R8... it's one of those exotics that a regular guy could own and drive everyday; Plus, it looks and sounds the part

For the money I'd buy a GTR. It won't get the looks like the r8 but in my book that's a plus.

For a high-performance street car it's pretty hard to beat the value in a 996 GT3. Can be had for ~$60K. I dont know what you do with +300HP on the street, other than stress over door dings and be frustrated by speed limits and draw attention from police on long wkends. It also doesnt help that the highway rules in Ontario are becoming even more oppressive, giving police the authority to take your whip whenever they see fit (your word against theirs, effectively). Even if you are going the speed limit, lose traction in a RWD car you can kiss it good-bye +$10K fine. Do you think it's fun to watch a local tow truck company haul your $100K car? they dont pay for the damage to it either. I love fast cars that handle well, but the more you experience you have going faster the less you feel like the right place to do that is on public streets. The more time you spend going faster on a race track the more it becomes clear that street cars are not meant for racing (and vice versa). Part of the fun in an S2K is that you can experience a bit of its performance/thrill without breaking the law (even still, barely).
