Default Battery fitment

Today I dropped by Costco and found their Optima batteries on sale 129.97. I think that's a good deal since normally these batteries are more than $250. Only thing is the fitment: The one onsale/clearance is group size 24 or fitment 29, but S2000 battery size is 51 or 51R. Compared these 2 batteries the Optima is shorter, and wider, but length is the same. Will it be possible to fit the battery into the S2k factory battery tray?

Edit: After I google some battery tray pictures, seems the OEM without modification there's no way to fit this Optima in... Too wide.

Here is the photo I took today

Why would you pay $129 for a battery to start the car? Why the "dual purpose" yellow top? Heck, why the Optima at all?

Except the earlier defect version of Optima 51, generally Optima has bigger CCA and longer lifetime compared to other batteries. If I own a Toyota I'll buy it for sure since this one fits almost all Toyota models, or Lexus. Even Honda Odyssey uses this fitment 29.

Optimas are mediocre batteries with a great marketing program! They are physically rugged and handle off roading (or parachute drops) better than conventional batteries. The yellows are "dual purpose" and dual purpose batteries do neither well. Unless you have electrical loads exceeding the alternator capacity the OEM battery is fine as all it needs to to is start the car. If you're exercising the sub-woofer at the KFC parking lot with the engine off some extra amp hours will help.

The little Odyssey PC-680-P works well and is a favorite where small size and light weight is required. Pretty sure there are S2000 mounts for it as well.

Go grab this:
http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/mo...-0103420p.html

it's on sale -$20 off, comes with a 5 year non-prorated warranty. (Meaning you get a brand new battery if it fails in 5 years at no cost)

It's AGM (a rebranded Exide/Northstar) which is good.

They all offer a pro-rated 4 year warranty, this is a 5 year and non-prorated as mentioned.

Fit's perfectly

+1

This battery is great despite its small size. I have never had a problem starting the car even after sitting 2-4 weeks at a time. Even though it doesn't get that cold here (40s-50s at night lately) car starts right up. I am also running a 10in sub pushing about 300w.

Save some weight with this battery and it also looks very nice with the Password JDM mount =).

How to make it fit Lee? Drill holes under the top plate and re-use the factory tie rod across the holes?

Just painting the mount now.

Basically I used the oem mount and modified it to accept the yellow top. Using stock posts with new top square tube. I have a welder so this is a simple modification! I'll take pics later and post em up
