Default Buffing plastic rear window - good product

My plastic back window was really bad when I brought it home from the dealer. So bad I could not see out of it. My top is great though so no sense replacing.

I used this product to hand buff it back to a good state. The damage was so bad that there is still a strip that looks scratched but the rest of the window cleared up nicely. It is see through again. While not perfect, the result was good enough to want to tell others, in case you didn't already know.

Here is the product. Its a plastic lens polish so it is also good to buff up your yellow headlights. Take a look: http://www.eshine.ca...2526.php?cat=13

Obviously, wash the area well before using the product so that you don't create more scratches.

There's no push back from the top to allow you to apply pressure.

There mights be a product that will fill in the scratches to give you the illusion that it's not scratches, but that will disappear after a few washes unless you seal it in.

Claybar sounds like a good idea, I have to try that sometime , thanks for the tip Jeff . Himura357, that looks like a great product for vinyl windows.

Here is my routine. On my Mugen rear window I buff it with Meguiars Plast-X and it comes out pretty clean, it is relatively gentle and it gets rid of any mild hazing, it isn't overly aggressive. I'll use the Plast-X on both sides of the window. I then coat the window with Menzerna Powerlock sealant ( it has a thousand uses and I put that stuff on everything), it offers good UV protection on the outside surface. I will buff and seal the window once per season.

After it is buffed and sealed I clean it regularly with Plexus throughout the season. Plexus provides a wax-like topcoat and it offers additional UV protection. Plexus is a great cleaning and protection product. It is anti-static and dirt doesn't stick to the window, I use it on both sides of the window. Optimum makes a great spray-on wax with high levels of UV protectors. I have a few bottles of the Optimum spray wax that I will be using on my carbon fiber hood, but it would work well on vinyl windows too. Getting some kind of UV protection topcoat on the window is important once you get it buffed clean.

Awesome tips. I should look into a sealant too.

To clean with a clay bar, Do you spray it with water alone?

Soapy water, OR if you go to canadian tire and buy the megiuars clay bar kit it comes with some type of spray to use in place of water but can't speak for it because I've never used anything else but soap and water

I bought the kit by mothers. Actually on Monday I washed the car and clayed it and used the cleaner and protectant from ragtop for the plastic window, but didn't clay it. I just don't know if the detailer's products that come with the clay bar kits have any chemicals that might harm the plastic. Next time I clean it however will use soapy water to clay it. Thanks for the tip. Btw Tuesday I polished and waxed the car and left me satisfied.

soap and water destroy clay bars.

Much better to use a detailers spray, it has a lube in it
