I thought about the m-coupe as well before I bought the S2K. There was a "NEW" 99 at the BMW driving experience, had next to no km's and they were selling it as new. I couldn't justify $64k on a 99...but thats just me. Its kinda neat, I don't love how it looks but its fun to drive.
As for storage, Mike's right I'm shocked at what I can put in that car. I often go to Costco...it'll hold a giant bag of toilet paper and papertowels as well as other odds and ends that you buy at the Costco.
Only once have I not been able to get something in the car, and you wouldn't have gotten it into the M either.

Just got an M Coupe. Now we have both a 2002 S2K and a new 2001 M Coupe! see this thread:

The one thing about the M Coupe is that it's not that attractive looking. The performance is spectacular but it's still kinda odd looking.
Looks wise the s2k wins hands down.

one's a convertible and one's not - that's a pretty big fundamental difference.
you could always buy the s2k and a hardtop and then you could have either look - sure the S is not as fast (maybe?), but only you know what turns your crank(shaft)
i also went through the process of comparing/shopping for the usual hardtop suspects - but decided on a convertible because i had never experienced owning one before - having said that, once i decided, i only compared the s2k to other convertibles and made the only logical choice
comparing hardtops and convertibles is like comparing the lakers to the clippers

we bought the S2K first, then added a hardtop later (the M Coupe) Yep, if one was to choose between the two, it would come down to personal preference. It's tough to compare anything between the two cars directly, both are so unique.
