Has the s2000 appreciated in value?
Hi all,
Long time member here, just not very active anymore (having a kid will do that to you).
Recently, the wife and I were chatting about potentially selling our S2000 and get something with 4 doors as we've only put 1,500km on the S in the last 4 years. I did a quick search on autotrader and kijiji and am wondering if those prices are accurate of the current market as asking doesn't necessarily mean selling? Looks like an 06 AP2 with around 100,000km goes for around $30k?
I've tried to look through some older FS posts here but it doesn't appear like there are much cars for sale at the moment or even recently hence this post.
Thanks!

There are some "reaching for the stars" asking prices and some realistic ones. It really comes down to what LemonJus mentioned, clean and stock but also well maintained and a clean CarProof. $30K for a 2006 with 100000KMS may be reaching a little but if you have a non mainstream color it will certainly help.
Good luck.
Good luck.

The prices have gone up. I'm in the exact same situation as you. Just had our first. In the past few years, I've only put 3000 kms on my AP2 Sebring.
At 94,XXX I'm going to sell this year or next. My only mods are an OEM AP2 lip, and Bilstein pss9's. The cost of swapping back in the stock suspension is the same as what the Bilsteins are worth, so I'll be selling with the coilovers installed and the stock suspension included.
What colour is your car?

its that enthusiasts are recognizing and appreciating what the s2000 is- back to basics, engaging driving with great dynamics, reliability, fun to drive- honest manual shift. But, ONLY cars that are unmolested, no accidents obsessively maintained with low kms will really command stratospheric asking prices. Low mileage is 5000 kms or less/yr. super low mileage is <10K kms TOTAL- those are where the smart money invests.
an '06 for $30K is on the high side- unless it has <25K kms- i couldn't justify that price given that the dollar may one day go PAR again. IF. maybe? Then i'm gonna import s2000's like a fiend. All bets are off for low milage CR's. Run away from salty driven cars.
Now, JDM cars are looking attractive with the 15 yr rule in effect- that is where the magic is. I believe the JDM cars will be quite reasonable to import. I think $15- $18K CAN all in for a JDM '02-'03 with <100K kms. maybe up to $25 - $28K CAN for later year typeS with <100K kms. But who knows.
Remember this- all s2000's of the same year are not the same car. Its like the guys with american iron who think their rusted out '68 mustang is worth cobra money. nope.
the closest car has got to be the new boxsters- wow, what a car- incredible interior fit and finish, great looking. questionable new engine…but big time money. You could buy 3 s2000's for 1 new boxster.

The Canadian market has to compete with the US market for these cars and the weak Canadian dollar is increasing your prices. When the currency was at or nearly at par a $20,000 S2000 was obtainable on either side of the border. That US$20,000 is now CDN$27,000. That value will drop if the currencies get back to par ever again. Limited market of domestic Canadian cars increases the value (what you can sell for) of the car simply by supply and demand.

I was shocked to see that I can cash in now and get almost as much as I paid for my car and I put on like 50,000 miles in like 4 years. It's an '09 I bought with less than 3k miles. Amazing. Too bad I'm not ready to part with it. Everyday I take this shit out someone says "Nice car! Do you want to sell that?"
