But it's only a one time thing.

Did you recently change insurance companies? If you're with a broker, then you might have to ask your broker
No, I didn't change insurance company and I did a safety check when I bought the car, this is very strange when my insurance said because of the age(AP1). I thought they wanted me to do a structural safety but it is not.

Most of the basic insurance companies won't insure aftermarket parts, in fact they don't want to insure you if you have aftermarket parts in many cases. So I wouldn't tell them about the parts if they don't ask. On the flip side if something happens to your car you won't be covered for the cost of the aftermarket parts. I think there are some classic car insurance companies that will insure you for aftermarket parts.

I've often worried about the cost of my hardtop as it is worth 1/2 price of the vehicle value right now, as it stands I'm not insured for the top. Thinking about going to a classic car insurance company in the future just to get more coverage.

There are certain parts that aren't necessarily DOT that I wouldn't mention that most of us probably have but I was thinking things like wheels or ya your hardtop. But I guess it's probably better not to open that can of worms.

When I contacted my insurance company last week to reactivate full coverage, they again asked about aftermarket parts/electronics etc. I told them there wasn't any, but I actually replaced the head unit and I will probably have the dashcam in there this year.

sorry guys, i should of ask do i need to do safety every season?
Safety only when you buy/sell

E-test every couple of years or every year depending on the age. You'll get a notification / letter from service ontario whenever you need it to get your new sticker
I called insurance today taking my car out this weekend and they want me to do a safety check due to the age of the car, seems strange so i just ask anybody here is the same

Is the insurance company going to pay you for the cost of the saftey and etest plus your time?

I would laugh if they asked me to do that. That is a Provincial thing, nothing to do with insurance. If you have a plate with legit stickers, insurance shouldn't care about those things. If they do, shop around.

You guys are mistaking a DOT safety, and the vehicle condition inspection they ask for due to age. I have shopped around, anything older then 15 years and they now require the inspection. It's a form to be filled out by a mechanic about the exterior and interior condition and/or modification. If you know a mechanic it costs you nothing
