This weeks F-1 thread...
Well no one else has started it, Marco has a busy day at work already scheduled, so let me get the ball rolling...
Let's look at the driver's numbers after the 5th race of the season.
01 M.SCHUMACHER = 50
02 R.BARRICHELLO = 32
03 J.BUTTON = 24
04 F.ALONSO = 21
05 J.TRULLI = 21
06 JP.MONTOYA = 18
07 R.SCHUMACHER = 12
08 T.SATO = 8
09 D.COULTHARD = 4
10 G.FISICHELLA = 2
11 F.MASSA = 1
12 K.RAIKKONEN = 1
13 M.WEBBER = 1
Let's look at the manufacturer's numbers after the 5th race of the season.
01 FERRARI- 18, 15, 18, 13, 18 = 82
02 RENAULT- 8, 6, 8, 9, 11 = 42
03 BAR- 3, 6, 10, 8, 5 = 32
04 WILLIAMS- 9, 8, 2, 8, 3= 30
05 McLAREN- 1, 3, 0, 1, 0 = 5
The Spanish GP was an interesting race. Who would have thought McLaren could fall from the sky is such a short period of time.
Ferrari had mechanical issues with Michael's car but was able to nurse it home to victory.
Jensen seemed to have lost some of his past fire and yet Sato seemed to have an amazing weekend.
Sorry Simon, but Montoya seems to do a lot of pouting, the announcers really beat up on him over his comments at the last race interview and it was clearly not a good day for BMW. And now we hear Frank is looking for all new blood for 2005, maybe JV does have a chance to get a seat.
Kimi has gone from nearly a championship winner to a back marker completely out of the hunt for the championship this year. I can't even imagine how low he must feel.
And yes, I'm still darn proud of my 2nd place pick with Renault. Seeing Trulli get to the first corner ahead of Michael was no small surprise. That Renault has shown over and over they have the launch figured out.
There was a shot at the end of the race of J. Todt wiping his brow when Michael had crossed the finish line and had made it to the end of the race. I wondered about his expression of tremendous relief for a long time, and then it hit me. The Podium would have been a totally different situation had Michael not made it. Rubens in red would have been in the middle, and flanking him on both sides would have been Trulli and Alonso, all dressed in Renault blue and yellow.

I think they need to start a new racing league.
Formula S, and have Michael race superman or something on par.
I was actually bored yesterday watching the race.

The major changes they are talking about for 2008 could dramatically change F-1. Let's just hope the change ends up being a constructive one.

I wish he could have held on for longer but oh well, take what you can get.
And when corner one came, there was NO QUESTION who was up front, it was not one of these side by side things, the Renault was out front.
