Need to replace Head Gasket :(
Soooooo...to say the least, my head gasket is seeping oil and I'm getting the occasional cloud of smoke out the exhaust. Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and replace my head gasket at ~55,000km. Not very pleased about it but shit happens I guess.
Just looking for your recommendations for where I can trust getting this done, or if you guys have any suggestions on what I could/should do in the meantime. I'm still planning on daily driving it a bit but will not be taking it to the track anymore until this is repaired. -Brad |
What colour is the cloud? Is it on hot or cold startup? How sure are you that it's the head gasket? This just seems really odd if it is.

there's a lot of places oil can leak from, are you 10000000% sure it's the head gasket?

Are you sure it's not the valves? Occasional smoke as in after idling at the lights? If so, that's valves.

Are you losing coolant as well?
Unless it was faulty from the factory I highly doubt it's the head gasket. Had 180K+ on mine and could have reused it when I did my head... |
Only noticed the smoke when I was really pushing her at the track, it was a blueish colour by spectators description. My exhaust tips are also BLACK, much more than I am used to seeing.
I have oil staining from the valve cover gasket (between valve cover and block). I have oil seeping between head gasket (between bottom of block) I can take pictures? My oil colour is okay although it was just changed. As far as I know I am not losing coolant at this point. |
Are you sure it's not just coming from the valve cover, running down along the head making it look like it's also seeping out between the head and the block?
Clean it all off and monitor daily. |

Try cleaning up all the oil with some brake cleaner, and check where the leak is coming from after a week. Mine had a lot of oil even after I replaced the valve cover gasket. It turned out to be the o-ring on the hex bolt.

How much oil are you topping up within 1000 KM?
Did you do the valve adjustment as all 06+ should be (most of them have tight valves)? Do you have a catch-can? |
