New track car project.

So as much as I enjoyed the Monda for the past two years I’ve come across a good deal on an s2000 that I’m going to slowly make into a track car. When I say slowly I mean over the winter it should be somewhat ready for some basic lapping days. The Monda will be parted out and sold and I already have an interested party on the modified subframes to fit the F20. Go figure :p

Some of it will be parted out and posted up in the next couple weeks. Will be looking for a hard dog roll bar and hard top to start. I already have some of the parts needed to start the build

Amplified_AP1 10-24-2017 04:59 AM

Ah so you grabbed that one! I saw it on kijiji, probably went into the best hands possible considering it appeared to be in rough shape, looking forward to the outcome!

s2kdarren 10-24-2017 06:26 AM

awesome Nick! I cant wait to see what this car looks like 6 months from now

myflys2k 10-24-2017 06:50 AM

Yeah I’ve seen this car a couple times and every time it was overpriced. The price on the car was decent to make the move to this platform.

jaymz 10-24-2017 07:11 AM

I'm interested in those hoops behind the headrests. We talked about them at the dyno day. The clips are all broken on mine.
That's assuming they will be avail..lol

I’ll take a look at them tonight. I know the car is pretty rough so I’ll confirm the condition of them

Suzuka_Snisen 10-24-2017 08:39 AM

Are they all your s2ks??

haga888 10-24-2017 02:48 PM

This should be fun.

Hfreak 10-24-2017 04:38 PM

Red Top Racecar, I remember his post and negotiated a deal and passed. This car will be properly reborn now with Nick, I would have just used it for parts. Looking forward to the build. :tipwink:

Love it man! Jealous.

Ive been toying with the idea of finding a sub $8,000 S2K to build into a gutted racer.

the engine was toast in this one but the MONDA engine will be swapped over... or will it?

Went to look at it. Engine is seized.

myflys2k 10-29-2017 05:59 PM

Interior is removed and not too much that can be salvaged. Almost every part has deep scratches so not worth much.

haga888 10-29-2017 06:39 PM

What’s the back story on that one? Just abused?

Royaltrophy 10-29-2017 08:06 PM

nice project I was looking at this car on kajiji, does it have any black carpets or fender liners youd part with?

myflys2k 10-30-2017 02:39 AM

irreparable title. I think it had flood damage but 90% of the electrics will be coming out anyways.

fender liners seem to be in good shape so those will come off and will post for sale. Floor mats are black in ok condition and the carpets are red in ok condition. Will clean them first before selling. Fenders are also in good condition, will likely trade them.

d1000rr 10-30-2017 06:08 AM

Sounds like you got a nice winter project.

myflys2k 10-30-2017 09:03 AM

Yeah lots to do. Might also have a few other projects to do over the winter so this one might be pushed off till spring :(

This will be interesting to follow and to see the finished product On Track.

myflys2k 10-30-2017 05:24 PM

Removed the dash to get all of the dead weight out.

Get rid of those door cards while you're at it.... You should weigh all the crap you've taken out minus the stuff that's going back in

myflys2k 11-01-2017 02:34 AM

Not planning to remove the door cards quite yet. I even left them in the Monda. I’d need to get some carbon pieces made to cover all the metal and that’s proablt the last thing on the list. I think I need an engine first :p. The car will be corner balanced eventually so not too worried about the weight right now.

^^^ LOL John!

hawkman199 11-01-2017 03:29 PM

John, you're crackin' me up here.

Super pics! Ugly as hell cars, but probably fast.

Not sure it's Nick's style....

:tipwink:

myflys2k 11-03-2017 03:04 AM

Why cut the windshield for weight reduction when I can just add more power!
More progress on the weight reduction. The dash is going back in to eventually compete. I’d say it’s less than 10lbs. I’ll have to weight it

haga888 11-03-2017 07:04 AM

if it's only 10lbs, you could start shaving some of the mounting tabs. grams eventually add up to kg's!

Haven’t had much time to make any progress on the build. Been busy putting the Monda f20 engine into this beast for a friend.

Hi Nick
How many cans did it take?
Did you heat it with the kitchen oven, or use a heat gun?
darcy

myflys2k 01-04-2018 03:03 AM

Not even half of a can and I put it in the oven. Probably best to do it in the summer and when the wife isn’t home because the smell from it is horrible. :p open all the windows in your house when you do it.

Royaltrophy 01-04-2018 07:07 AM

did you have to remove the seals around the spark plug holes before putting this in the oven? what was the temp you used and how long did you leave it in the oven?

looks great nice work.

yeah I took them out. I have a new set to put in. 1hour at 200F to cure the paint

Good stuff! Grams add up to kilograms. There is no substitute for weight loss.

Should you be as OCD as I am, and want to but the rigidity back in those panels, these guys offer individual dimple dies. Awesome quality and made in Canada. I have many of them and have had great success using them in blind holes with a nut and bolt; as they are hollow.

theres little to no structural rigidity in the inner door sheet metal. The reinforcement bars are still intact. I am planning to get a dimple die set though for other parts of the car.

Hfreak 01-09-2018 04:40 PM

:duh:, LOL but every pound counts. Dimple dies could be challenging in certain areas.

Nice project Nick.

Scracho 01-13-2018 04:36 PM

Things are slowly progressing on the track build as parts roll in and the other project Exocet come to an end. RSG Mugen Rep and roll bar. Soon to be permanent installled. Might hold off on paint for a season to see what I want for wheel clearance and possibly upgrade to different wheels. Cylinder head is going to the shop this week for a refresh and then I’ll assemble it and get it ready for install.

yeah since the engine that I acquired for the track car has been sold to a fellow member I decided to go ahead with an in-line pro build. Going with an in-line pro 2.4L 11:1 compression and then vortech supercharging it :p
