Hey everyone, I'm looking for s2000's and all the ones under 100k km are asking 25k+ on Autotrader. Realistically with a 20k budget, what can I expect to buy? Ideally I'd want one with under 100k km, but I've read that the Honda engine is pretty robust and high mileage shouldn't be a concern. MY doesn't matter, just mainly looking for a clean stock one in any colour except NFR or silver.

Is there a "best" time to buy an s2000 to get the best deals? Such as near the end of fall when people are putting the car in storage or in the winter?

Winter usually is better. I honestly don't think you're going to find a clean one under $20k with less than 100k though. If you do, jump quick or someone else will. If it's well maintained and clean, >100k wouldn't scare me necessarily. Remember, even the newest one is 7 years old which would have only been ~17,000km/year. That's not a lot of driving.

Any tips for key things to look for when purchasing an s2000? I've never bought a used sports car before so it's kind of intimidating. I have no relationships with any mechanics, but I'd want to get the potential car checked out completely if that's the best move to take. How would I go about doing this? Would I just find a mechanic, book an appointment, then meet with the seller there, and pay whatever fee they charge? Or would the most important elements to look for in buying a used s2000 be able to be spotted without a professional mechanic? I know there is a guide somewhere on the forum, but I'd just like some input from the local enthusiasts and their experiences.

Good luck in your search and be patient, there are quite a few S2K's out there that have a jaded past.

you can always post information on a car you're interested in and we'll all chime in.

All s2000's are great cars. The key is to set a budget, and buy the lowest mileage, non winter driven, no accident car you can within +/-20,000 kms of your target mileage. Where are you willing to compromise- higher miles will net you an AP2 for similar dollars to a lower mileage AP1. Certain colours are more common (silverstone/sebring)- hence lower buy in price. Other colours and combinations are more rare (GPW, yellow) for eg. and hence higher price tag. The more you set limits on yourself, the longer your search will be.

Expect to be disappointed and frustrated in your search. It took me 1 year or searching for the right car- but then, I had specific goals and areas I was willing to compromise (colour) and other areas I was not willing to compromise (no winters/accidents/budget).
