Default Radar Detector & Detector Detector Curiosity

Hey Fellas,

Im considering purchasing a radar detector. Does anyone have one? And are some detectable by police? Are there any recommended models? Hoping to spend under $300. There seems to be detectors in all sorts of price ranges from 50$-700$.

Personally I don't think they're worth it. All police cars are equipped with radar detector detectors and most police forces are switching over to laser which makes them useless anyways. If you're unaware, radar detectors are prohibited in Ontario and yields a fine up to $1000 and 3 demerits. They will also seize the detector if you are pulled over with one. There's a good reason you don't see many people with them here. The police have many ways to detect your radar detector, even the ones that are advertised as "undetectable". PersonalIy I would not want to chance having $600+ worth of electronics seized.

A couple of years ago: Coming out of the US after crossing the Peace Bridge en route to a military exercise at CFB Borden a buddy and I were flirting with the drop dead beautiful Canadian customs agent. I swear she was still in college and we're soldiers afterall! She asked if we wanted to "save $600." "Sure!" was our response. "Put the radar detector on the trunk!" We did ("Yes, ma.am.")

I'm still skeptical about the ability to detect laser , usually once you detect it you are already caught. Maybe they've gotten better ?

Laser would be used for the cop that sets the sights and pings off cars From a distance.

Radar is used by moving cops. Cop driving down the road, sets the radar to light up at a predetermined speed. Or follows a car and get a reading.

I can't see a reliable way to scan for laser, it's focused. Therefor unless the cop hits the detector then you can't really broadcast out a signal to see a laser.

I've been nabbed by both methods..

If the roads are busy you'll get plenty of notice from the detector.
