What a shame, hate to see this happen. Good luck with finding a replacement shortblock.

Valves on 1/2 look wet compared to 3/4 or is it just the camera angle?

did you over rev any time?

The cylinder head with damage is #4 is wet, same for #3 but to a lesser degree. May have bounced off the limiter (8200) or came very close to it one or twice.

Mileage? Was the car on upgraded squirters? Ran low? Or do you have a theory already?

75k kms. Stock oil jets. It's a MY06 (DBW) so I'm not sure it needs upgraded jets. Never ran low (checked/changed religiously - S/C has an oil filter relocation/coolant based oil cooler kit so it holds an extra litre of oil an never exceeds 8 bars on temp. Won't know where the metal frags came from til i pull the pistons but my theory is from the oil ring - otherwise something must have dropped in through the spark plug tube. Not sure how the latter could have occurred as plugs have not been removed since valve job over a year ago and it was running fine up until that fateful morning on 4/17. Maybe there's a chunk of metal missing somewhere else and i'm not seeing it yet.

Bizarre.
Ok wasn't sure of age. Ap2 have the updated bolts. Valves look fine. Hopefully billman chimes in. Any previous work done? looks like the engine ingested something. Is the flashpro using the notoriously inaccurate oem knock sensor?

NP on questions - warrants a note that 40k kms have been incurred with the S/C installed. Thanks for the opinion on the valves - hoping that cleanup doesn't reveal anything that's being concealed. Was contemplating replacing them with Nitride coated ones from Supertech but given the relatively good condition (will verify with a leak test) may just keep the originals. Very tempting but costly to upgrade properly functioning parts. No previous work done other than maintenance (valve adjustment, fluids). Not sure about the Flashpro setting regarding knock sensor which is OEM. i can poke around the settings but would appreciate a tip on where to check. Is there a recommended knock sensor replacement?

I would stay oem everything from my research. Knock sensor is something to look into, I don't know that much but I'm sure others can chime in. I wonder how the oil pressure was, looks like things started as you said in the rings. Any findings in the oil filter or vtec screen? Some f22s have chewed up some thrust washers in recent months

Oil filter, oil pan and vtec screen were all clean (gave me hope that bottom end was fine). Thrust bearing inspection will have to wait until i remove the block. Pulling pistons, rods, caps, rod bearings this week as time permits.
