got the 5D yesterday... wow!! Hey, wing.... now i know what i am missing.. LOL

focusing is a tad bit slower than my D200 under low light (faster under good lighting though)

You will definitely need to use L series lenses on this camera, the rest will just exaggerate the flaws on the image... I have tried both normal lenses and L series... L series makes a big difference...

i am happy with the results i get on ISO 1600...
shutter sounds are very different... silent but very plastic like... the shutter sound on my D200 and D2X sounds more robust... maybe just personal preference...

the 24-70 L 2.8 lens is great.. sharp even at wide open.. however major distortion at 24mm end.. but we all know that canon is not about wide angles when compared to Nikon...

the 70-200 L IS USM is awesome.. and in my opinion the IS works better than the VR in the nikon 70-200mm... somehow i get sharp images 80% of the time in settings that i know i would only do 30% of the time in the nikon

All in all... great system... you might ask... if I start from scratch.. what would i get....

I am not a landscape kinda guy.. but i found that Nikon cameras have better user interface... i.e. buttons are easier to access, i can change my settings quickly (and this is not because I have been using nikon for a while... they are just better designed that way), the functions are easy to find.. etc..

Freddie better invest in some new tshirts cuz he'll bulk up hauling that 5D around.

Congrats, the 5D is an awesome camera and the battery life is outstanding with the grip :)

The 24-70L is a great lense I've been contemplating getting one, I use my 17-40 almost exclusively but sometimes I need a zoom lens and like you said the basic lenses don't compare.
