i have noo idea..the thing baaaarely started after 2 long tries boosting it. now im reading all these other posts of a sudden voltage drop like me out of the blue and they all seem to have yellow top batteries (like me again) so im maybe now thinking its just a battery cause theyre all claiming its just the battery. i have a spare brand new battery here for my car. i dont wanna just throw it in...i wanna do a test as well

Once it started, did you measure the voltage? If the alternator is toast, you will get very low voltage. If it's good, you'll still get almost 14 volts.
If you need a new alternator, try to get a rebuilt one or have yours rebuilt. Might be a lot cheaper than buying a new one.

This alone, may not be an indication that it's your alternator. It could be a bad battery, bad terminal connections, bad voltage reg, bad diodes, bad rectifier.

OK, its confirmed and fixed...it was this garbage yellow top battery. from my old car to this one ive now officially had no good experiences with this stupid battery. My alternator is fine. Weird how it just out of the blue after it being parked for 2 hours it had like pretty much 4 volts. It didnt even start this morning till I boosted it and did all my voltmeter checks. I'm at 14 give or take with the car on. Thanks for all your help
