top replacement

I'm looking to replacement my top. I need to find an experienced shop to do the work. Price? Who?

darcyw 03-02-2017 05:39 PM

ask nick real nice- myflys2k is his screen name.

Ontario is pretty big province so your location would help. I know of no one else who I could recommend.

I second this. He's probably done as many top replacements as the largest Honda dealers

I have done overs 30 soft top replacements usually 5-8 a year. Send me a PM if interested. Located near Kitchener.

Nelsonr31 03-04-2017 07:25 AM

I can vouch for Nick. He did my top and nothing but an excellent job was performed.

clubhopper 03-04-2017 09:37 AM

Wow I may need this done too!

Myflys2k,

I inherited my Dad's 2000 s2000. It needs a new soft top as the original has been slashed and the plastic window has been removed.

Could you you let me know about approximate cost. The car is in Oakville.

Thanks,

Lou

myflys2k 04-15-2017 06:09 AM

Hello Lou

I don't sell the softops but do install them. You purchase the top of your choice and then bring it to me for install. It takes roughly 8-10 hours especially if you want to have a glass window instead of the plastic. You show up with the new top and leave the same day with it installed. I prefer weeekends but can do week days if needed as well.
Let me know if you have any questions

$450direct swap
$525glass conversion

I've installed lots of the sierra tops. Most seem to go with the heartz stayfast cloth.

I'm also going to need a new top soon. The passenger side is starting to tear in the normal location. Can't decide if I should go soft top again, or bite the bullet and use some of my tax return money for a hardtop? Not sure if the wife will like either option...

Much better to ask for forgiveness than that other thing, wives just don't understand. Or I should say, some don't. :D

Jorden 04-26-2017 04:37 AM

Quick question for anyone - did you get the top shipped directly to your house? or did you ship it to the border and picked it up to avoid brokerages/duties/taxes etc...

Thank you,

-Jorden

afzan 04-26-2017 05:11 AM

Such a waste of time to ship stuff to the states and pick it up.

Use crossborderpickups.ca instead - Ship to their US address, pickup from Mississauga

Sweet! thanks for the information! I'll have to check them out. Any duty/taxes/etc?

I ordered from Amazon.com and had them shipped to my home. Don't remember having to pay duty or taxes. It turned out to be about $100 cheaper than ordering from Amazon.ca.

I found my UPS receipt for duty/tax which was $58. Still saved $100

Need help

hi guys, so I basically need some guidance and tools for changing my soft top. I've decided to do it myself with the help of someone with experience. I can pay up to $200 and beers :).

The reason I want to do it myself is so I can learn for next time as well as clean up the areas where softtop sits and underneath that.

Please let let me know if you're willing to help we can set up a time and knock this out the park!

thanks

There are parts that you need (rivets, clips) which are not included in the kit. Nick has everything, so there's no need to go hunting for that stuff. When Nick did my soft top, the invitation to observe was there for me to learn and I must say, that without experience, the job will take a lot longer. He was also nice enough to clean up the leaves that had accumulated under the old soft top. When he removed the old soft top, there was no cutting like what you see on Youtube videos. The original soft top came off intact in one piece.

Agree that it's a long drive but I think it was worth it.

trust me, 10hours well invested. It took me at least 4 hours just to figure out how to gut the soft top and I wasn't trying to be gentle because I wasn't putting it back in. Add in replacing the top, putting the assembly back in, and fitting all the plastics back and the bandaids for the destruction to your hands. It's a pain in the ass job. There's probably an art to making the top fit well as well which probably takes doing it ten times to get. It's absolutely possible to do it yourself, It probably requires more contortion than precision. But if Nick charges what $450 and some beer or something for a days work I'd go that route 100% of the time. It's one of the least fun things you could possibly do to this car no matter how many beers are consumed.

Sweet thank you for the information. This is was i did, please see below.

I went autotopdirect.com for mine and bought the Hartz stay fast cloth top. it was 533 USD which was 822.XX CAD. I used cross border pickups to get it to Canada and to save on the duty. Like another poster said to. Cross border pickups fees where 15.00CAD and the tax on the top was 104.XX CAD. Total was 941.00 CAD for the top. I found the same top in Canada and it was 949+HST = 1072.37 CAD. So there a bit of some savings going the route i did. more money for beer,

Cheers

I hope this helps some people

Nice. Didn't realize you could replace the top without removing the frame. How long did it take?

That one because the top was a frame mod (plastic window to glass) took 6-7 hours.

Still doing replacements? Just wondering what the cost would be as my roof is leaking.
