Default UK S2000 Coming Back to Ontario

I am bringing back my S2000 and have been trying to find insurance for the RHD but its been a pain. Does anyone know of an insurance company that will insure it for reasonable? I have tried Hagerty and a broker and the cheapest I found was 6k with over 15 years experience and a clean record.

Its completely stock AP1.5 (we know it as a facelift) 2004 Moon Rock Grey with a FC20 and a hard top matching colour. I have been debating on bringing it and either selling it or trading it but I do really enjoy the spec of this car and its RHD. No point in swapping to LHD as that would be more work than just AP2 with an AP1 drivetrain. Looked at some Euro LHD cars but AP1s are going for 25k euro plus importations so no luck there. Might have to take up residence in Alberta for a bit.

there must be some company insuring them as I see lots of RHD cars in our region. Whenever I apply for insurance they never ask what side drive the vehicle is, unless it comes up automatically by VIN number ? Are you obligated to tell them ?

There is a company called Vintage Insurance who also covers classic cars like Hagerty. You would think those types of companies would be more open to insuring these kinds of vehicles. I never thought that would be an insurance obstacle, but good luck with your search.

Try Echelon Insurance. They insured my Piaggio Ape 3-wheeler so they'll insure anything I think. It was cheap but obviously different vehicles.

Let us know and post the photos when the car is home! The car meets all the criteria of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act I assume? I'd think it would but if not insurance is moot.

RHD looks kool but everything, including the gearbox, is "backwards." I rent manual gearbox cars routinely on the Continent but only automatics in the UK, Ireland, and Australia -- hard enough driving on the wrong side of the road!

Ontario is really bad for RHD, back in the fast and furious days the GTA was quite known for a street racing scene, 20 year olds, RHD, no anti-idiot systems, 90s JDM power... what could go wrong? They wouldn't insure anyone under 25, but parents were registering the cars in their names. They tried any modifications, over 25 and only the named drive could drive, but again that didn't seem to work. So after that they decided to make it such a high risk premium that no one will touch them. Most other provinces you are okay and some states. In due time they will start again but for the moment it seems like one or two underwriters will or facility if you like giving your money away.

RHD is interesting, takes a while to get used to, I must have hit the drivers side door with my right hand over a dozen times. But hey its JDM, well sort of, and you get to go through timmies drivethru backwards. LHD here isn't too bad, as roundabouts save you from doing a dreaded Right turn without a passenger seeing whats coming (left turn in a RHD).

Mainly the AP2 with the lower range box and the FC20 is pushing me to bring it home, and its tuned for B roads (the twisty road).
