Wake the Dragon 2011 - April 15-17

I'm definitely down for this if I can rack up sufficient funds by the time this rolls around. Also, how will the drive down work? Will it be a straight 14 hour drive with minimal breaks? Or will it be a casual cruise kind of like the wine tour cruise where we stopped every hour or so?

I've always wanted to do this, but I would hate to put all that mileage on my S2K just to get down there... I gotta find a way to trailer it lol

Me and starchland went down together last spring and like he said it was a blast and on the last day of the event we knew that we'd go back.
The only thing that is holding me back from attending this is school. I hope that this falls on the weekend of my finals.

By the way who wouldn't want to drive on a road that has 318 curves in 11 miles? That should be enough to get you guys to go. Lol.
Also it's not only the dragon that has twisty roads, it's everywhere you go in that area.

The best would probably be drive MOST of the way there, stay at a super cheap hotel 150-400 kms away. Wake up early the day of the event, at say 6 am or earlier, and finish the distance. That way, its not as much distance driving in one day, and its a night at a cheaper hotel to bring down the cost for some.

Like krosfyah said the dragon is only a part of the many roads. there are tons more of varying speed difficulty and elevation throughout. Also the microtel in nearby robbinsville is an economical option. Mmm can't wait to have deep fried steak again
Dangit I need to badge myself already!

When I went 2 years ago we stayed at a Hotel in Alcoa TN. Everyone meets there at the local hooters for dinner on the thursday and some of us drink up a storm (close to the hotel) The next morning everyone makes their way to the dragon. We can all split a hotel 4 per room maybe a couple more to cut costs. As for Fontana village we can all split a cabin with 3 bedrooms and 2 couches. So that's good for 8 of us. The problem is we would have to book it soon as they fill up quick and no one wants to pay for a cabin that sleeps 6-8 if only 3 end up going.
