Default Wind noise over 100km - Soft top not as tight as before

Hey guys,

The AP1 has the original soft top latches and I get wind noise over 100km/h. If I manually pull the top down it goes away.

Is this just the soft top latches going bad? I read some people add washers or something to close the gap?

Anyone have this issue and fixed it? New soft top latches are not too expensive if I'm not mistaken. Hopefully its just that.

Thanks!

You might just need to add a shim or two to the existing ones.

Is it just the strikers/latches getting old that creates this problem?

I believe so. I think it's a regular wear part metal on metal.

Here's the shims Honda sells:

The striker plates are likely the issue, they wear faster than the soft top latches, I'm sure the latch hooks are a harder metal. I might have a couple spare strikers I could send you for free, they are used but likely in better shape than yours. A simple trick is to add washers under the striker plates, I had to do that on my car to stop the rattles, it is a simple trick and works as it pulls the roof tighter. You just remove the striker plates put a decent thickness washer under the striker plate and then reinstall it, 2 washers per striker plate, it is a simple test if it works then great, if not then you haven't spent anything. The trick is getting the striker plate bolts out without stripping as the factory used Loctite on them, you need a big ass phillips screwdriver and push up with force while turning, or use an impact driver which works the same way, small screwdrivers won't give you the needed torque and can strip out.

Can the striker plates be swapped? If you look the wear area is on different on each side

Yes, that is one of my suggestions along with washers and on the hook side, some people put on a silicone tube to increase its thickness.

My personal experience with this was back and forth swapping between both sides, putting washers under both striker and the lever, bought used strikers switcheroo and rain dance before and after but NOTHING WORKED quite like just pony up and buying a new set.

The moment I installed the new parts the problem was gone and the roof latched down super tight. No more wind noise or rattles.

That is pretty much the right answer and ultimately what may be needed.
