It seems to be THE thing with all new construction. It's easier to cut a hole in the ceiling vs. patch one up.

Very much so, though you still need a hole in the ceiling if you do a pendant light.

yeah but not as big. 5" & 6" is the norm. Smaller recessed lighting seems to have died off. A pendant is 4" hole.

Recessed is cool, but I do like my pendants/hanging lights, they add more character IMO.

It's kinda like modding a car beyond repair. Like the spackled/sparkly 70's era ceilings. You can fix that. Holes everywhere in the ceiling?... Our kitchen has them. They did a shite job on one of them - hole is slightly bigger so you have to jerry rig the trim to stay up in the ceiling.

Lol. My brothers old house (the one he's now selling) had the glitter ceilings He's redone them luckily, but it does make you scratch your head as to why that was ever a thing.

We've had to redo our kitchen ceiling twice (leaky tub, twice) and in hindsight I should've taken the opportunity to put lights in but didn't. Kitchen remodel is on the to-do list, but luckily it's the one without a time frame or I'd be in trouble
