Too much sci-fi horror / horror in general has me conditioned to really REALLY feel uncomfortable in a room like that.

Me too, there's a house locally for sale that I want that needs work, and would benefit massively with having the sliders replaced with the big glass wall sliders.

The sq footage is way off on the listing, they're including the basement in the total. It's closer to 2900 total, but yeah, market here isn't great for houses. New ones are high though, they're typically $150 per sq ft or so, still less than where you are though.
I figure this one needs about $100k in work, that is somewhat reflected in the price as well. I'm still used to Houston prices though which are far less overall, and usually for a more substantial home.

The architect that designed it did quite a few homes around Michigan, they're all a bit on the edge and outside the norms. I love the trim that's at the top of the walls instead of being baseboards, it's all walnut too. I can see the potential in it overall, just can't convince myself the cost of entry is worthwhile. The son who inherited it from the original owner has done some questionable things as far as upkeep, so that scares me off as well.
