S2KCA Leakey Drive 2/21/10
Go to http://forums.s2kca.com/showthread.php?t=33021 for more information.
Anyone from Austin or SA interested in joining us? The route will cover the best roads in the state, and the weekend weather forecast is looking good as of now. The Austin group used to hit this area frequently back in the good old days, before everyone started acquiring significant others, babies, demanding jobs, etc.!
I will probably leave NW Austin around 6:30-7am to meet the Houston group for breakfast in Kerrville. Dinner in SA is planned for 6pm, but I'll likely pass on that to get home earlier.
Come join us, it will be a great time!
Note that S2KCA membership is required for all drivers, but the organizer (Tom, aka Doctor Mugen/Medical Student) has graciously offered to pay $10 for anyone signing up @ the drive, cutting the net membership fee to $25.

Really? S2KCA membership required?? That sounds pretty ridiculous...
The SASCA AutoX is that day, anyway... But anyway. Where is dinner? I might be interested in meeting up with everybody after the AutoX...

Per Tom: "If you have a problem with the requirement, then throw your own darned drive"
The organization of these drives is a club benefit, so I can understand the requirement even though the Austin chapter doesn't do that.
Tom is sending details via PM, so I'd contact him directly for dinner plans.

Have any of you all considered the possibility that if your friendly and get people coming out to your events first then they will subsequently purchase a membership? On the other hand you could come on the S2KI forum and act really up tight so that the new guys like myself immediately become disinterested. Oh well I was kind of turned off by the format of the S2kca website anyway.
Sorry I have a bad habit of saying what I think and your response just seemed a bit arrogant. Anyways I guess the fee goes to cover the honor of being in ya'lls presence since the roads and diners are all open to the public.

^^^ I'm not the leader/organizer, just a participant from Austin who has led countless drives open to members and non-members alike.
But it's not my event, I'm just passing on details and inviting y'all along. I'm not providing my opinion on whether it's a good policy or not, b/c I wasn't consulted and my opinion is irrelevant here. Sorry if that comes off as being uptight!

I'm referring to the attitude of the organizers not you. It just seems a bit exclusive. I've never been on a drive with your group, and I happen to have the day off, but I'm not paying for a membership to go on one drive with ya'll just to find out that everyone is in fact just as pompous as it seem. It just doesn't seem to me like an effective event to raise money for the club. It's a great opportunity to get some new people out, but then you push them away by expecting membership dues before they can come meet everyone.
You probably know Rayvynx and Gatecrasher - they're just a couple of local members. I personally think the club members are very nice and personable, which is why I still hang out w/ them 3 years after selling my last S2000. I even drove to S2KDays in OH in my Cayman S b/c those events are so much fun.
The Houston chapter has plenty of events which are open to everyone, this is just a rare one that isn't. Quality of drives goes down w/ too many participants, and this is one way of keeping them a manageable size.

all i can say is that Chris S is an awesome/nice guy! he is just the middle person which sucks. i understand that if your not a member you cant go but o well cbrdream21 come out to AUTOX and have fun with your car and learning its limits!
I'm an s2kca member. It's gotten me discounts to both of the Harris Hill Road HPDE events I've been to and has bought me lunch for the Austin s2kca Holiday Drives so it has definitely paid for itself. I can't speak for the Houston crew holding this drive but I can definitely speak for the Austin club and they're great people to hang around with; Chris S being no exception as he's passing along information to the people here who don't frequent the s2kca boards as much as they do here on s2ki. Don't judge the club before you even get to meet the members.
As the host on that thread mentions, if you don't like the requirements then host your own drive. That is what we do over here. Like Chris said they probably put s2kca membership as a requirement to keep the amount of people going on the drive down to keep it fun and manageable.
I would have gone on this drive but AutoX is calling my name this Sunday.
