Default Is there an Austin s2000 club?

I just purchased my S and want to play with others I've heard stories about drives in the past (some getting out of control) so was there once a club and it no longer exists? I looked on s2000-alanta (strange place for Texas forum) as well but didn't find much going on. Don't tell me the local miata owners out do the s2000 owners

Thanks,

Aaron

Wanna play with other S2ks?

I would say the best place for that is Spokes in Austin. www.spokes.org
TN, myself, DT, JA, and PMc are all members of spokes. The people of BS class are pretty laid back and the more S2ks the better. Someday I hope we out number all of those silly WRXs the keep showing us how to understeer. I got it already, sheesh ;-)

Some people think spokes has alot of "know it alls" in it but you just kind of have to ignore them and they won't bother you. If you stick close to the people above, I am sure you will have a great time.

Welcome Aaron,

Sorry to say everyone does their own thing now days.

Fabec, you forgot to mention me and Jose (co-driving) my black S!! I'm the "slow" newbie and Jose is the fast one (only 2 secs behind you and Tuan on very bad S-02's).

Yes, go to Spokes, the next event is on June 1st. You would be the 6th S2K that would show up (I dont know what happened to Schatten, Tim, or the other Aaron). Spokes is a fantastic place to meet great car people, and they are very helpful. I have no idea how such a small club in a small city like Austin has so many National Level Auto-X champs, but its to your advantage to meet these people, and watch them drive.

The other members on this board are very nice and helpful too. My only word of advice is, if you do go on a drive with them, be very, very, careful

Also, one of are members is an instructor at The Driver's Edge high performance school of driving : www.thedriversedge.net
I highly recommend getting your S to one of the great tracks we have in TX. Contact jwfisher if you are interested.

Have fun breaking in your new toy.

Yep, we sure did have a lot of adventures... Cops, giraffes, floods, cops, mexico... It appears that the main organizers of the happy hours and hill country drives are less active. I suspect that quite a few (including me) still lurk around, though.

Yep, I'm already a member of Spokes. I own a '93 RX7 but only raced once this year, in feb. Soon after, the damn thing started crapping out on me. I will be there 6/1. I'm at 500 miles and climbing. 600 should be no problem by next week end It should be interesting...150 less horsepower, street tires, no suspension mods. Wow, I'm going to suck See you race day.

I used to organize a lot of drives, but haven't been as active lately for a variety of reasons. I'd suggest you cruise on over to the Atlanta forum for more local events, since our most active social organizer was banned here.

It looks like some drives will be coming soon, but toned down vs. what we used to do...they were really fun, but we've had our share of (mis)adventures at high speeds!

nope, I did ok during the race, soon after I started using radiator fluid. I stopped driving it before I had any major issues....well, that is if you don't qualify having to rebuild the engine major
