Default Advice Needed - Body shop / Workshop

I need some advise on a body shop and / or workshop that can help me.

I am planning on installing a set of wider wheels and tires, and in combination to that, doing the following:

- Install coilovers (to lower the car)
- Replace the front and rear bumper, and front fenders (to fit the wider front tires)
- Roll rear fenders (to fit wider rear tyres, may need a roll at a minimum)

FYI - My setup will be 17 x 9 + 38 Work Emotion CR KAis, and I'd like to use 255 40 R17 tires. (please tell me if I am going the wrong direction here, I'm open to advise as well). The body parts are from Shine Auto, which from my research make good quality aero parts, which relatively minimal prep work required compared to other manufacturers.

I recently approached a body shop asking for a walk in and walk out price for the above work (all inclusive, excluding parts of course). I was quoted $2400, which honestly came as a bit of a shock.

My questions are:

- Is the price I was given realistic for the work I am planning on doing?
- Should I separate the work (have a paint done at location A, and the coilovers and wheels at location B?)

Can you please advise a body shop you have used in the past that you trust, does good work etc? I am not looking for a dodgy job, I know good work costs money. I am simply looking for advise based on people who have done this before, and if I am being realistic or not with the budget.

I would keep body work and mechanical work seperate as they are two different areas of expertise...PM 00mugen (not sure of the exact spelling) for the part installs, he has done lots of work for me, owns an S, and does quality work for a good price. Paint you would have to get done elsewhere as he does not do paint...

K well first of all why are u going to do extensive body work and paint just to run such weak wheel and tire combo??? U can get away with 17x9+45 with 255/40/17, or if u wanna go 18's can easily get any wheels with widths of 10"-12" with high offsets and still be able to run bigger tires with a minor roll, For example ccw's are 18x10.5+51 with 245/35/18 on the front, rears 18x11.5+57 with 285/35/18 would easily fit a stock bodied s2000 with a roll. The amount of money u spend on body work and aftermarket parts u can just spend it on a set of ccw's with some sticky tires.. If I were u to avoid a huge headache from experience don't change your fenders!!!

I don't have +45 I have +38 and was told by several people that I would need wider front fenders. Also was told front fender metal is very thin and doesn't take we'll to rolling compared to the rear. I am not interested in buying new wheels again so I have no idea why you are talking about all these sizes that don't apply to my situation. I'm changing the bumpers to change the look of the car. The front fenders was to simply for the wheels. But I do agree that it's a headache which I'm trying to avoid. I may ask in the general forum before moving ahead. Thanks.

Oh ok i thought u were getting body work and paint done on the car Itself...front fenders can be reworked to your liking, yes they are thin but unless your car is slammed and really low i wouldnt worry about getting fenders, you can flare your oem fenders up to 20mm and fit almost anything under that, Im a wheel whore and been through over 12 sets of wheels, 17x9+38 is not hard to do with a 255/40/17 but I don't think you would need wider front fenders for these, unless you really want the look of aftermarket fenders, also depends on how low u are going?

Here is an idea My friend use to charge when he had his shop

Labor,Painting/prepping=750 for parts like fenders and bumpers includes install and removal
Fender rolling=150
Install on coilovers=200
Sandpaper and supplies=100
Miscellaneous= 100
Total=1300 or so ballpark

The extra 1100 from that shop is relatively high on price unless they are charging hourly labor instead of finished work

s2kep3 - thanks! Can you recommend a good body shop that would do the work? I imagine you would know at least one or two that you'd trust. If you can help me with this, I'd be grateful. Thank you!

I could help out with installing coilovers and doing the body work. If you're still needing help, just PM me and let me know. I've helped several other members here on the forum as well and a few have come back for further work.
