Catalytic Convertor Failure
Hey guys,
My cat is rattling and not doing it's job (failed inspection). CEL is on today as it comes on in colder weather.
I heard that emissions equipment is supposed to last 8 years/80K miles or something like that.
I called the service department and they said I might have to drop the car off and leave it with them, saying it may take a while to pinpoint.
Isn't this just BS? I don't have a lot of time. I know nothing 'bout cars and this seems pretty obvious. Can't they switch out the cat between 7am and 9am tomorrow morning and let me get to work on time? Are they going to try to tell me that my aftermarket exhaust ruined my cat? Should I put on a stock first?
Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm sure they'll blame your aftermarket exhaust. That's how dealers work.
Put your stock exhaust back on. Take it in and ask for a loaner if it's going to take them more than one day to fix your car.

Crap. I could get a stock put on for 100.00 bucks (off AP1), but wouldn't be able to do it 'til friday afternoon. Don't want to spend money on that either. I guess I'll take my chances, fight 'em on it, and if I can't win just get a testpipe with O2 fix in there. Rather spend 100.00 bucks on that instead of a stock exhaust.
Thanks for the response.

you can borrow mine. Don't expect them to be able to fix it in one day. We don't have S2K cats "just layin' around" You should be okay on friday since the weather has slowed down the shop.

I would ABSOLUTELY get a stock exhaust on there before taking it in. Hondacare are SERIOUS a-holes and they will use ANY excuse to deny your warranty. Seriously.

rioyellows2k,
I'd love to borrow your exhaust. When and how am I gonna get it on? I have an "appointment" for tomorrow at 7 am. If it's not gonna be ready by 9am, I'd rather not get up that early anyway. So I can get a loaner? I suppose I still pay tax, huh.

Ok. I've decided this is not even worth it. (switching exhausts, leaving my car, paying tax on rental, etc) I'm going to just get a testpipe with O2 fix to get rid of my light, and have my buddy's friend's shop pass the inspection for me.
Thanks guys for the help and kind offers, anyway.
