Cell phone usage in cars
So word around town is that a new law was passed that makes talking on the cell phone while driving is now a ticketable offense. I have been searching online for sources to back this up, but have not found anything. Anyone know anything about this new law?
Now mind you, I rarely talk on the phone while driving, but there are always special circumstances. Just want to cover my ass, just in case. :) |
yeah, it's fake if this is what you're talking about:

there are some cities that have passed ordinces regarding this....
I am not sure I had heard plano was one of them.... But I moved a month after hearing this and never go there anymore so I dont know if that is true or not... |
Yeah, I have no factual information, but the rumor I've heard was that you were required to use a handsfree device (earpiece, speakerphone, whatever).

Ok here are the current laws direct from DPS....
Concerned with the impact of cell phone use on driving safety, Texas lawmakers have enacted cell phone laws banning the following types of drivers from using cell phones while driving: Intermediate license holders Bus drivers when a passenger 17 years-old or younger is present Despite rumors to the contrary, there is no state-wide ban on hand-held cell phone use in Texas nor are local jurisdictions authorized to regulate cell phone use. While Texas law may not limit hand-held cell phone use significantly, safety experts recommend that you follow these guidelines when using a cell phone in your car: Use a hands-free phone Keep your eyes on the road at all times Never dial while driving Avoid using your phone in bad weather or heavy traffic Avoid stressful conversations while driving Never look up phone numbers while driving For the latest information on Texas cell phone laws as well as the cell phone laws of other states, please visit the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or the Governors Highway Safety Association. |
Thats funny a lady at my work printed the list of new laws and passed it around our work saying she heard it from her lawyer... some lawyer she has.
