Default I need a good mechanic in the Dallas /Fort Worth Area

I have a S2000 2001 model with 37,000 miles. I was down shifting to 4th gear going about 65 miles per hour when the engine red lined and started to miss and loose power. 1 minutes later I pulled off the freeway and check the oil and water they were ok. The car was hard to start and had a miss when it did start. I check the gauges and everything was ok. Later the engine lit came on. Has anybody had a similar experience? I have an extended warranty and they are not willing to authorize the cost of breaking down the engine, and probably the expense to repair the engine( they are thinking I have a bent valve on the #4 cylinder). Just to teardown the engine will cost $600.00.

Do I have any recourse?

It I have to pay for the repair costs are there any good mechanics that can put my car back together without cost me a small fortune.

Thanks for the input

From the sound of what you did, you misshifted and went into 2nd instead of 4th, and may have overrevved your engine. I think redline for 2nd is 64 or 65mph. Keep in mind that if Honda does tear it down, and discovers a bent valve (sometimes caused by overrevving) not only would your warranty not cover it, but you would be liable for tear down. I don't know if an extended warranty would be very different.

The only guy I would trust with my car would be Todd Marcucci. He has an S2000, and is very knowledgeable at this. Email him at todd@s2000.org

I would second the vote for Todd. On the down side he is a very busy guy.

Tommy D, we deal with extended warranty companies on a regular basis. If you would like to bring your vehicle by my shop, we can take a look at it, and contact your warranty company to see if we can help to push your claim through.

I do a lot of RX-7 business, and most DFW area 7's have extended warranties. I got Omnicare to cover a full rebuild and new turbos on a 93 twin turbo with 83,000 miles just last week.

Give me a call. Maybe we can help you out.
