Default NASA Texas @ Texas World Speedway - April 19-20

Just curious who all is planning on heading down to Texas World Speedway for the NASA event on April 19-20? I'm going, and I know there are a few more from this group who will be there (mxt_77 and 27h2hc for starters).

I just realized today that it's been over seven years since I've been down there - the last time I was there was in my '98 Prelude! I detoured through Houston on the way down there to look at a '93 RX-7 that I ended up going back to purchase in April of '01.

Yep, I'm in.

I can't remember the date of the last event I went to, but I was also in a Prelude (2000). It was an event organized/sponsored by John Eagle Honda.

Yep, I'm planning to go. Let's hope things go better than they did at MSRC.

Hopefully I can get David to do some testing for me this weekend to find out if the "problem" is the car or my driving style. Regardless, I'll need to dial out some of the oversteer bias, as it just doesn't match my driving style!!

Sigh. I need to figure out what I want to do for my motorsports fix.

Possibilities are:

1) SCCA A-Stock Solo II with the MY00 car
2) Same, but with a new CR. (I really enjoyed driving rjones's car.)
3) Simple DE's with MY00 car
4) Honda Challenge with MY00 car
5) Track days with the motorcycle

Right now I'm leaning towards 5, it requires the least amount of changes to my vehicles , but I keep thinking I'd like to do some w2w racing in the S some day. Or time trials, at least. If any of you think you'd like a co-driver for an endurance race some day, let me know, maybe we can work something out.

We already have 2 S2000's in Texas Honda Challenge and one more is in the planning stages. Add a 4th to the party!! We have some great contingency prizes like 2 Hoosiers to the winner of each race, one for second place, and we have 4 races per weekend. That can mean ~$2000 worth of tires are up for grabs per weekend.

Altiain has some great points and any way you slice it racing is expensive. I think that you can cut a lot of that down to some degree depending on how competitive you want to be. If it's just locally and you don't plan on prepping the car to the limits of national competition you can actually run for a reasonable cost over the season.

This probably means running tires like RA1's instead of V710's and using stock or Koni shocks instead of Moton or Ohlins etc. Also keeping travel to more regional events like divisionals or maybe just 1 somewhat close National tour etc. My budget isn't huge by any means as I'm saving to buy my first house so I had to resort to somewhat inferior equipment for this season as I don't have a co-driver but I don't mind.

I picked up a set of Rotas and older model Hoosiers for $900 bucks whereas a new set of A6's would've cost that alone and an additional $2000 for a set of SSR competitions. So I can still go out and have fun and be somewhat competitive to a degree (depending on my driving) and still not blow thousands of dollars this season. You could probably do the same with A stock, or PM me if you want to make an offer to co-drive the Elise in SS.

Better than needing one of these

Cosmos, I'd definitely be interested in a SS co-drive. I know you and Clovis are faster than I am, but I'm curious by how much since we haven't had car parity for a while.

How do co-drive setups usually work? I have a truck to haul tires and equipment of course, but I assume there's a monetary consideration to cover tire wear and such. Further, while I assume that damage from, say, punting a cone head-on would be covered by the person driving what about something that's out of their control, like a wheel hub breaking or such?

TypeSH while HC racing would be fun, and although I did list it as a possibility, the monetary and time constraints really prohibit that for the time being...
