Ok, let me post what I was orig thinking:
Somebody should mention to him that he should register in the R class if he doesn't want to mess with the standard class rankings... That is if he doesn't see this post himself

I drove in street class this year specifically because of the lack of competition in R. With the Kumho ECSTA MX being significantly cheaper than any of the track compounds, I'm thinking I might just stick with street class for the time being.
Anyway, how many sets of tires are you going through in a year? It should cost roughly an extra $250-300 for R-compounds over the cost of the MX. If you're not driving them around town, they should last about as long. My experience with the MX is that they get hard well before the tread is gone.
Now we need to work on QUICKAG. He's already moaning about his street tires after MSR so it should be an easy sell

Forgive me if it's already been mentioned, but season points totals are here:
http://www.s2000.org/nts2koc/autox/2006points.htm
Anyway, the MXs were new at the beginning of this year. So they've been through a total of 7 NTS2KOC events (Lane co-drove it twice.) 56 runs on MW surface and still plenty of grip left. We'll see how they do at the first event next year...
MX cost: 2x$100 + 2x$117 = 434
V700 cost: 2x$173 + 2x$172 = 690
So yeah, a $256 difference.

Did I read the results right? Did I actually win a trophy 3rd Place in S2000R?!?!
After 6 years it would be my first "real" award. I discount my past "sexiest driver" and "wittiest poster" awards are purely ceremonial and the result of padded envelopes passed to the judges.
Yeah!!!!

You're funny, Al!
About the race tires, even though I got frustrated at MSR, I'm still deciding whether it's really worth the hassle to get R compounds/wheels and get them to the track and changed, blah, blah, blah. It was pretty nice just loading my car up and heading home each day at MSR this past weekend.
I may be getting less competitive in my old age. I haven't even gotten an alignment and didn't take off my hardtop or even get everything out of my truck at the last autocross I attended.
Not to mention, even if I did get R compounds, I'd still be running against guys with super light exhausts, suspension work, alignments, and who knows what else.

Corey, that's all the more reason to go out and lay a whupping on them.
"If you think I was fast today, wait until I remove my spare tire, tool kit, and dead body from the trunk"

Hey Corey, forgot to tell you that you're still famous at MSR for the car catching fire incident. People were talking about this past weekend.
They came over and asked, "Hey man, make sure you tighten your oil filter."

Oh well, I think the other drivers in my run group thought I was on fire the whole time
