I had an opportunity to inquire about the possibility of a Panoz school S2000 event. The activity would take place in classrooms and track sessions at the TMS road course (infield/possibly oval too) using the participants S2000 rather than the Panoz cars. The participants would be placed in groups depending on driving ability and the level of instruction desired. Lap sessions with and without instructors and lead-follow would commence after classroom/trackside sessions. The Panoz school can take care of track rental and safety equipment. Pricing and availability to follow as early as this week...

consider me very interested - esp since I have some fresh AVS Sports being mounted on me stook later this week.
btw, Panose? or Panoz - the roadster builder? like the one below? http://www.panoz.com/graphics/1124_PANc.jpg |
Yes, Panoz is one and the same (also the correct spelling).
|
Mr. Panoz is also the guy who started the whole American LeMans Series.
|
YES!!! Can I play too?!?!

Me = In

Very interested here.

The Panoz School called today. Unfortunately I was in a tense meeting and missed the call. Can't wait to discuss this tomorrow!

**waits patiently for the update**
I think TMS is going to become my favorite hangout, I'm out there at least twice a month for entire weekends! |
Jeff Robillard called from Panoz today. Here is what we are working on.
A one day track event before the end of June or in early Fall at TMS. The event will be turnkey. Bring a helmet and a car ready to pass safety inspection (criteria supplied in advance). All instructors are professional race car drivers. The group will be divided to participate in lead/follow and sessions with instructors on board. Solo/group runs will be determined by skill level. Between runs instruction will continue on the track at various corners. Driving will take place all day except for the lunch break. As many as 20 cars can drive this course simultaneously if procedures are followed. Complete details are on the way from Panoz. The school is checking dates for track availability on a weekend. The complete package runs $13K for the road course and $17K for the road course and oval (LeMans Series setup). We will need at least 25 participants to make this available at $520 per head. We can accomodate as many as 50 cars without sacrificing available runs. This would bring the cost to around $260.00 per person. Our hope is to attract all of our S2000 friends. We could of course invite other cars to the event if needed. In addition to the school's insurance coverage they are willing to write coverage to protect our club as well. I'd be interested in the groups prefs for scheduling as noted above. Grab your helmets and get ready... |
I'm in. Definately. I'd suggest keeping it an S2000 or S2000/NSX event. You can post over at nsxsc.com and nsxprime to ask for more people over there. I'm sure by then, we can have 50 people to bring the price down to the optimal $260.00 for the day.
Just make sure reservations are kept for the S2000 owners first, and then let others come in afterwards. Just my two cents, not to step on anyone's toes. |
Jeff suggested that we consider inviting some NSX owners. He felt it would be a good mix on the track. Panoz conducted a Porsche event at the track (noted the S2000 that showed up was fastest on the course).
Who wants to drive the track "too fast for CART"? :D |
Yum! Either date will work for me, really. (Just as long as it isn't the weekend before July 4th - I'm going to be in San Francisco.)
|
I'm still in if we can get enough people
|
I'm in also if the date selected works out!
Will |
I'm in.
|
I should have a list of dates from Panoz soon. Stay tuned for the next update. I'm soooo ready.
|
I can't wait! Just got the new AVS Sports on and they are just itching to be broken in.

well, I'll soon find out. I'll put on Ming's FLCB (xbrace) this weekend, and try out the new tires (got em on today - all four) and let you know. First impressions aren't that great, but then again, I was used to S02's that were sliding all over the place to the point of predictability - because I had to prepare for it every time. But you know how I drive. <g>
205/55/16's in the front -1.2 camber, +6 caster, 0 toe 245/45/16's in the rear -2.0 camber, 1/16th toe in costly yes, but will see if its worth it, or else, I'll drop the dough for trashing A520's every few months. |

Here's a picture of what I just passed at Midway and Beltline in Dallas. 485HP -- only 448 of these will be made in 2001.

The first motorcycle races were held @ TMS this weekend, and the feedback about the track was not overwhelmingly positive:
http://pub66.ezboard.com/fcmramessageboard...opicID=45.topic Any chance we could do something at Texas Motorsport Ranch instead? It's a great track, challenging yet safe w/ nothing but grass to worry about if you go off track. Plus it would be MUCH cheaper. I never get bored there, it's always fun! I also think TWS would be better (the course, not the facility). My $.02... |
I'm with Chris. Texas Motorsports Ranch is a great track, and if it's cheaper too...
|
I will be on vacation the week of memorial day so that is out for me. If the cost is < $500 I'm in still as long as I'm in town.
|
This is an event still in the planning stage. I have not received our information package from Panoz yet. I will consider other tracks if a turnkey event package is available. Obviously TMS/Panoz is not the cheapest option but it is all inclusive with insurance. If a competitive package becomes available elsewhere we will be all over it.
Once we get a few of these under our belt TMS (infield road course) can be rented very affordably without instruction for as little as $2000 per day. Open DE events at TWS and Motorsports Ranch are always available. |
Originally posted by Chris S The first motorcycle races were held @ TMS this weekend, and the feedback about the track was not overwhelmingly positive: http://pub66.ezboard.com/fcmramessageboard...opicID=45.topic Another area of concern was the chicane (again, out on the tri-oval) prior to turn one. I thought it was fun actually but we do not intend to rent the oval sections. The main reason for considering TMS is the turnkey deal from Panoz. Instructors, track, safety equipment and insurance are all included. The idea is for everyone to enjoy the event instead of being responsible for running it. The club has hosted a driving event at Motorsport Ranch before and it does not cost any less. This is not to say that other tracks are out of the running but our initial events must be turnkey. I would like to visit Cresson (Motorsport Ranch) as well. Keep up the good suggestions. |
(also posted in off topic)
Pretty cool vid if you want to see what TMS looks like behind the windscreen of the baddest production bike on the planet. Watch how quickly he gets to 170+ mph! Just be warned that it's a big video (>4 mins.) and takes a while to download. http://www.y2kracing.com/TMS/tmsvideo.htm My F4 suddenly seems a bit sluggish... |
Provided I'm in town, count me in for a track event. My preference would be TMS if the cost is reasonable (less than $400).
|
Looks like the track is available except for the first weekend in June (One Lap of Dallas). I need to get a concensus as to who would like to attend and on which weekend in June you would prefer. The Panose School can book next month or in following months although we may want to avoid the hottest weather. As soon as we can get a head count the cost of entry will be easy to determine. I'll check in with the school tomorrow and get the final details. Check back before this weekend for more info.
|
NOT the weekend of the 16th (Japan trip) and NOT the weekend of the 30th (San Francisco trip.)
So that leaves the 9th and 23rd for me, and they work equally well. |
Is this a 2-day event or just one?
wc |
I may be interested in this event too.
|
Update from Panos and TMS:
The track will NOT be available in June. The following dates are available July 7/8 August 11/12 The proposal is due to arrive by e-mail today. More info before this weekend... |
I finally received the proposal from Panoz today. I'll post all of the details in an update thread tonight!
