Default Suggest companies to send resume to?

I do what I can through Monster, CareerBuilder and Dice. But the majority of those postings are from recruiters, are 3 to 6 month contract jobs, or just don't have much info - and from what I can tell, absolutely swamped with applicants. I've found a few interesting postings, and a few nibbles of interest here and there, but for the most part nothing's been going on.

The other avenue is friends of mine who have submitted my resume internally for postings where they work. Unfortunately, there's been only a handful of these any nothings come of it.

Finally, to try something different - while driving around Dallas I've been writing down company names I see on office buildings. Then I go to that company's website directly and see if there are any job postings I qualify for. This has led to some of the most interesting positions I've seen, but unfortunately, still very little response.

So I was wondering - does anybody else have some suggestions about places I should apply to? I'm sure there are a lot more companies out there.

My expertise is Windows Server administration. My experience is in large enterprise environments, so I know more than just the tech side of things. Change management, working with business units to design systems, internal audits, disaster recovery, etc.

Some places I've looked at already - some I've applied to, many had no openings relevant to my experience:

Frito Lay, JcPenney, Intuit, McAfee, EDS, Intel, and Infosys are up here in N. Plano.

Have you considered going the contract route? Even if the contract is listed with a short duration, they seem to extend them often. I've been a contractor here at Frito Lay for 3 years. The other contractors here seem to stick around for long times too, and sometimes move from one project to another. I'm starting to prefer it, since the pay is significantly better.

I would also sugest a contract job. The fist one I ever took was for 6-12 months and ended up being 4 years.

I work for Wells Fargo and we hire lots of contractors here for 6 months and end up keeping them 2-3+ years if they're good. We actually just posted a non contract position today for the location in Westlake so you may want to see if that fits your skillset. I don't have any influence over who gets hired for it but you show throw in an app if you think you can do the job.

Another vote for temp/contract job. The job I am at now started as a 2-3 week temp job. After 1 year I went perm with them. That was 14 years ago.

Keep an eye on the postings at http://acs-inc.com/

When I lived there by you guys, it was about the best commute ever (assuming you haven't moved too). We've always got openings, so if you see anything of interest, let me know and I'll see if I can track down the hiring manager and get your resume to them.

I would suggest, as an employee in a mgmt position for a high end retail company, to go in person not online unless they request...it shows more willingness and often times you will be given an interview on the spot if the mgr has time placing your potential to be hired much higher than an online applicant that has no face!

Get thee to a networking group like Southlake Focus Group.
That way instead of dumping your resume into the black hole of the internet on these companies sites, you can get them hand delivered.

I went through 6 months of searching last year after a layoff.
Hit me up if you want any info on the networking scene. That is how I landed.

If you want to search on the Bank of America site, I would be happy to deliver one for you.
