ill be there in the morning spectating :) my first drift event, should be fun! Gotta watch out for flying rocks out there at Mineral Wells though

Wow was I disapointed. I realize most the guys out there have 0 to little experience but during the whole morning i only saw a couple good continous drifts from the better cars.

The thing that upset me the most was total lack of safety. I got there a little late, but so did half the drivers, and I saw no type of tech or examination of the cars?? Then I dont know what yall can do about corner worker type people because there was no one out there to pick up cones or flag people down. The reason that is need is because the ONE person letting cars go at grid was letting them go WAY to close together and even letting them do a running start when no one else was waiting. MANY times i would see a car spin out then the person behind them would catch up and have to just drive by them, sometimes even continuing the drift. Something needs to be done to make this not happen or else someone WILL get hit.

All in all it was nice to experience but a waste of $5.

Strange, since I thought they disallowed convertables due to safety issues... Did they have you sign an insurance waiver?

I wonder how bad drifting is for surface wear. I wouldn't think MW would be a good choice for this type of event at all.

Elistan 06-22-2004 05:55 AM

The way our insurance works, even people just watching have to sign...

Gernby, good question... I wonder, however, if the cornering forces of an R-compound tire would be greater than the forces from a drift car...

Gernby 06-22-2004 06:07 AM

I doubt high lateral force is going to be as bad as the grinding, ripping, and nashing of the old gravelly asphault.

Elistan 06-22-2004 06:57 AM

Maybe I'm a special case, but pretty much every lap I take involves some amount of grinding, ripping and nashing. :)

Yes I signed a waiver when I paid my $5 lol - and i was only watching. I would guess all the spinning out and spinning of tires would tear up the surface more than autoX, just my guess though.
