Track Day FAQ v0.3
#32
Aha! Perfect timing for my 1st (airfield) track day at the end of the month. Some nuggets there that I wouldn't have thought of. Thanks.

Just completed the day at Elvington on Friday doing the Performance Driving Course with the S'.
Definitely money well spent. I'll not blabber on much, as Steve did a good write up about his experience here
The weather was ideal too. Dry in the morning and lashing down in the afternoon.
Spun it a couple of times on the hairpin which was fun, and as mentioned elsewhere in the forum I remembered to drop the clutch the second time - yes I forgot on the first, and then took ages to get it fired up again.
It's been said before, it's definitely the best way to reveal and appreciate the car's true character. I thought it was a good deal more predicatable than I was expecting, and by the end of the day managed to catch the tail most times.
Four of us went down (S2000, Elise, 520d & and A3 2.0Tdi with quattro).
The instructors all seemed to take a shine to the S2000 in particular which was nice. We had the same guy all day, and i think he was impressed with the array of cars we took - they were all different, so it made his day interesting. He was impressed by the 520d (current shape) and just how well it went round the track!
We even persuaded the guy to take us a hot lap each in the Elise - Farkin' hell, that was good fun!!
No change for me though! - I've just realised how good my S' is!!
Time to do track based event I think.
My one question - I guess it's prudent to change the oil after each track day?

I doesn't have to be changed after each track day. the problem with changing it too often is not putting the oil filter on properly is more likely to cause problems than not changing the oil.
As long as the oil is topped up you should be fine.
If you track very regularly, I'd change it every 4500 miles. It's what I did.

Thanks for the advice!
Only 3,000 miles to the next service, so I'll hang out 'til then.
Knockhill has a definite draw to it now. Damn!!
It was mentioned this could be quite addictive!
