You can use torque on your phone and a wireless OBD2 dongle

Or a simple code reader off eBay for c£10

I have both the above and am in Gedling

The check engine light/MIL ? Well what code is it setting? Almost never is it actually the ECU that is the issue.

There is a thread here but no resolution

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/uk-irela...-code-1137997/

Have you cleared and it comes back?

The ECU is next to passenger left foot. I believe the trim pops off
It's not common but I reckon you could get a used ECU, issue is your keys might not work then.. hmm

I have seen mobile specialists but never used one

Usually first step with that code I would take is to make sure all grounds and inputs/wiring to the ECU are good and make sure there are no other codes coming up. For example, on many toyotas, a short in the secondary O2 sensor can cause an ECU fault code to pop up. Go ahead and clear the code though and see if it returns first.

I'd also check for water ingress too in the passenger foot area.
Has it had an O2 sensor in the last few years? Quite possibly could be this if it's been sat SORN and it's all sooty. Might have gone bad...
